Promotional?

Dirty Jobs is a program on Discovery channel not a job ad!

I agree... what this person felt good making this connection but it happens on all episodes of television... late night shows will say certain things before they go to commercial to help the advertisers, and there are numerous other examples. To comment on each time something like this happens would be insanity because it's what drives television. I'm deleting the promotional section. RYNORT (talk) 01:01, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

What sort of jobs

I think the whole point of having this show is to excite and exploit interest in disgusting and/or taboo things. That's why I placed this phrase in the intro:it is a cool show. i think he should work on cow farms.

I diasgree. It is nothing like Jackass, where they do stupid stunt and nasty things (especially Steve O) like sucking a worm up his nose or squeezing fish eggs and sperm into his mouth. What Mike does is real jobs performed every day by real people.PrometheusX303 13:14, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

I always felt the idea was to let people in on the jobs real people have to do, so they can understand it better.. I dunno, it always felt really positive to me.. Like if you feel underappreciated, you can watch the show and realize some people have it just as bad/work just as hard.. or even submit your job to the show.. well.. yeah. that.

I think the show's purpose is to educate people about what otherwise insane jobs go into making life normal for everyone else. Mike doesn't get on camera and go "Hey, watch me eat this feces!". Censoring

I found it odd that they had no problem with showing Mike washing a horse's labia and putting his arm into it's vagina and anus, but when he worked at a pet grooming place, they censored the genitalia. PrometheusX303 13:14, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Anthem

Mike sang this on the geoduck farmer episode. I'm not sure if it can be properly placed in the article, though.

Wasn't that at the end of the Viewer's Choice episode after the oyster harvesting? As for inserting it into the article, I suppose you could add it to a trivia section, but I seem to recall that it was an unofficial anthem so might not be noteworthy enough for inclusion. I do remember Mike singing with a bunch of guys after the oyster harvesting segment, but I don't think that version was ever replayed. I don't remember if the lyrics of that version is the same as the one he sang more recently ("pipe organ", "100th special"). The oyster version might not even be "canon" anyway since it was impromptu and all the guys in the scene were drunk... Wl219 04:30, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

not that I don't see the value of having the lyrics to this available (I enjoyed reading it!), but it over powers the article. Can we simply link to it elsewhere? I don't see lyrics in any other articles. Stuph 20:25, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

For the record, he sung it in four episodes. At the end of the Oyster segment, During the Views choice special(they replayed the clip from the oyster segment), at the end of the pipe organ cleaner segment, and during the 100th dirty job special. EvilHom3r 14:35, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Isn't Mike Rowe an old host from the shopping channel QVC?

Requests for submissions at the end of every episode - not in Canada

I watch Dirty Jobs regularly on Discovery Channel Canada and they always cut out the request for submissions, going straight to the bloopers or whatever. I'll add this to the article, but this is the sort of thing you're unlikley to see cited on a website or in a magzine. The verification comes from watching a Canadian broadcast of Dirty Jobs. 68.146.41.232 (talk) 19:27, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

How is that fact relevant (or even interesting)? If the Canadian Broadcast System decides to edit out the requests for dirty jobs section, it's probably because it's an American show and Mike's not planning to fly all the way to Canada to partake in dirty jobs up there. Small error

critique

As a Wikipedia article cannot include "original" research, someone should add references to reviews of the show. I would like to point out that a good chunk of the show's humor lies in seeing a blatantly heterosexual man behave in a wussy, sometimes effeminate manner when confronted with uncomfortable situtations, but I can't. Article for Barsky?

Does anyone else think that Dave Barsky could meet notability guidelines for his own article? He has quite a bit of on-air time in Dirty Jobs, second only to Mike. His IMDB bio shows along list of credits as a producer. Finally, a simple Google search turns up over 26,000 hits. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 14:35, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Dirty Jobs Down Under

Is Dirty Jobs Down Under a new season of the original show or a brand new series? The press release suggests the latter but Discovery's television marketing is advertising it as the former.
