GPS

edit

"His phone was not GPS-enabled so its location could not be determined."

I know the cited source contains that information, but presence of GPS in the device has nothing to do with provider's ability to locate the device. Even on GPS enabled device provider would have no access/use of it. Should that info be removed from the article then? Pbm (talk) 12:17, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps we should add a note ... I did something similar with Derek Boogaard, where his brother told the Minneapolis police that on the night of Boogaard's death Derek had taken some 30-mg Percocet tablets; some IP editor pointed out that the manufacturer doesn't make tablets that large. After a little back and forth, I decided the note was the best solution once I found reliable sourcing (the manufacturer's own PDF on Percocet) to indicate that while this is what the brother told the police, he was incorrect (it is possible that some counterfeit Percocet makers put out tablets claiming to have that size, or that he was confused about what drugs his brother was taking).

So, if we could find some reliable sourcing on this, we can go with a note. Daniel Case (talk) 21:17, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Daniel Case: I think in this situation the best would be just remove that info - I think it's not against rules to remove info if the source is not very good quality/reputable (and it clearly is - at least on the technology side). Mobile phone tracking has some more info on tracking phones with network infrastructure and mentions that GPS has nothing to do there. Pbm (talk) 16:16, 28 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I took it out. The following sentence says that it pinged a cell tower north of Columbus; you're right that that's really all that we can know. Daniel Case (talk) 16:22, 28 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hand sign?

edit

Can anyone explain the hand sign Brian seems to be making in the photos with his parents? Ttenchantr (talk) 09:27, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

With his right hand, for anyone else like me struggling to see it. I don't think we can mention its meaning in the article without a secondary source, but is there one? MPS1992 (talk) 00:56, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I wonder if it's a frat thing. Daniel Case (talk) 03:26, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
