Suggestions in 2008
editI would suggest that Disaster risk reduction is how we stop it happening and disaster management is what we do once it has.
I think we should merge the this with Disaster management since this topic comes under that —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.163.244.30 (talk) 16:47, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't agree since they are very distinct areas and require different activities, interventions and actions. In fact there is a need for more detail of how to prepare for and reduce the impact of different kinds of disaster such as floods, cyclones, earthquakes. Each require a different focus. Water and sanitation preparedness and DRR is also different from health promotion or health system preparedness for example. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ckob2 (talk • contribs) 17:05, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Subcontext for saving 200,000 lives with clean drinking water
editThe article reports in "Context" that $1 of less humanitarian aid, invested in prevention, yields a $5 - $10 reduction in need for aid. It also decries that only 1% of the $10 billion in aid is "invested" in prevention of losses from disaster.
MATH: The claim is that $1 invested in "risk reduction" saves "$5 to $10 in economic losses from disaster."
1% of $10 billion in humanitarian aid= $100 million.
So it's reduce humanitarian aid for drinking water by $1, to have $10 to save the dictator's palace? The $1 buys 2 cubic meters of water (NYTimes#s). Based on water pricing & usage, that's about 200,000 people of water/year. Pi314m (talk) 22:34, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
