first? According to my research, ksh88 didn't have it but ksh93 did. Zsh had it when first posted to alt.sources in 1990. Bash didn't get it until version 2.0 in 1996.
It's interesting to note that ITS' shell (actually DDT) has a command called :DISOWN
doing essentially the same thing.
