DMF vs. XDF
editHi, I think the MS DMF and IBM XDF 3.25 floppy formats should be discussed in one article. Some details are very different, but both formats are for ordinary floppies. Windows virtual PC supports both formats. –89.204.153.130 (talk) 07:47, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
While at it the fdformat stub could also profit from a merged "odd and ancient DOS floppy formats" article. –89.204.153.130 (talk) 07:57, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- While these articles are short and could see some expansion, I don't see a merge as a particularly good idea. DMF is just an ordinary floppy format with minor parameter tweaking, nothing really exiting. However, 2MGUI and XDF utilize unique formatting techniques requiring direct hardware access. Therefore they should be expanded and cross-linked, but not merged, in my opinion. --Matthiaspaul (talk) 19:34, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- Well, that leaves DMF and fdformat as suggested. The most exciting fdformat detail is the driver or TSR faking the BIOS floppy parameters on the fly with hex. digits in a decimal BCD value — I forgot the vintage 199mumble details, but it was in the direction of using 0x2A for decimal 30, where only 0x20…0x29 (BCD 20…29) are allowed, when 0x30 (BCD 30) is unsupported. –89.204.153.237 (talk) 20:14, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Removing Merge
editThere has been no concensus on the Merge proposal. Removing the Tag. Kobuu (talk) 14:02, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
physical description
editHow, HOW standard FDD controllers write 21 sectors instead of 18? Where they can fit? The article TERRIBLY lacks of such details! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.195.21.216 (talk) 23:23, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
