Official full name
editRe edits by user:Alanmak: [1] [2] - The full name of the territory is "Hong Kong Special Adminsitrative Region of the People's Republic of China". If anybody has got any evidence that its full name is indeed "Hong Kong Special Administrative Region", instead of the one mentioned above, please kindly present them for discussion. Thanks. — Instantnood 10:27, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
- I thought there's a consensus before. And the format is: "Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China". -- Jerry Crimson Mann 08:23, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, and it shouldn't be capitalised. The article is now at special administrative region (People's Republic of China), and therefore, it should be " Hong Kong, a special administratie region (People's Republic of China) of the People's Republic of China ". But what if we've to use its official full name? " Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China " or " Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China "? User:Alanmak has claimed " Hong Kong Special Administrative Region " is its full name, and that it shouldn't be mixed up with the name of the sovereign state, since they're two different levels. — Instantnood 12:59, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Romanizations
editThere is no provision at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (China-related articles) for use of zhuyin as zhuyin is neither a Chinese script, nor a romanization. There also is no established consensus or precedent for using zhuyin (just flip to any Taiwan-related article and you will not find it). Its use here is further unnecessary as this is not even a Taiwan-related article and HK does not used zhuyin. The Manual of Style calls for using Wade Giles only if there is a historical usage of W-G; no such past usage exists for "District Council of Hong Kong". --Jiang 03:31, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- Zhuyin is not necessary, as per the first paragraph of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English), an official policy - " any non-Latin-alphabet native name should be given within the first line of the article (with a Latin-alphabet transliteration if the English name does not correspond to a transliteration of the native name). ". — Instantnood 04:55, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Edits by user:Alanmak
editI have reverted user:Alanmak's replacement of inline-style presentation of romanisation with box-style, with other minor edits. [3] — Instantnood 16:24, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Proposal to rename this section
editI propose this page is renamed 'District Councils of Hong Kong'. At present, in the singular, it suggests that there is one council.
The Wikipedia preference for singular should not override the need for clarity. Earthlyreason (talk) 07:33, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- As you can see, I have now renamed to "Councils". Earthlyreason (talk) 09:37, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
More about this
editThis is a good official source. It's already cited, but has more to offer: District Administration. Earthlyreason (talk) 15:20, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

History - dispute
editAnd it seem it contain quite a lot error. I don't bought (brought also) the book The Administrative History of the Hong Kong Government Agencies 1841–2002 yet, but "District Office" existed in the New Territories much earlier than it urban counterpart. Old District Office North Building opens in 1907. However, this article was talking about Council not the District. The "District Council", known at that time "District Board ", existed only after 1982. Thus pretty much all the history about "District council" before 1982 is not directly related.
