On the names used

Please use the real name of Gjakova and not Đakovica, most of the text is used in slavic language why!?!?!?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drenxerxa (talkcontribs) 14:31, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

The territory is under temporary UN administration, as ruled in the Resolution 1244 (1999), adopted by the United Nations Security Council on 10 June 1999[1], where the UN reafirmed its commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (and its sucessor state, the Union of Serbia and Montenegro, after the country changed its name). Therefore, it is not up to the UN to invent new geographical denominations. I also like to remind you that this is English language wikipedia, so please make sure your contributions are up to standard regarding syntax and spelling, together with the use of commonly recognised geographic denominations. Completely wrong judgement. Kosovo by its constitutional framework is a territory under UN administration. And UN is not inventing new geographical denominations. Instead it is using a double-naming system, which is fair, and was always used in Kosova even before the occupatory regime of Milosevic (whose party you support) was installedin Kosova. i have deleted the part in albanian for the obvious reason of being in albanian. i have also deleted the part about the postal code as it made no sens to me. Rokpok (talk) 22:12, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Name

The name Gjakova is in Albanian language and should be the primary name of the Wikipedia page and elsewhere. The serbian version should come next. This is because Kosovo has been declared independent from Serbia and the primary language is Albanian, along with the majority residents being Albanian. Therefore, I urge Wikipedia to correct all the inconsistencies! A B X T 10:49, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Please, before making or discussing changes to the names used in all Kosovo-related topics, review carefully our general naming conventions and the specific ones on geographic names, using English & settlements.
In short, they ask us to reflect common English usage (which will often will be a local name, or one of them; but not always), because those are the forms our intended readership of English speakers would most easily recognize.
For a number of historical reasons, the English language has adopted the Serbian forms. We merely restrict ourselves to reflect this usage. Wikipedia is not a venue to advocate the adoption of the Albanian names by the English language.
The names will be modified only if the English usage itself changes to something else, or if our current naming conventions themselves are amended to "reflect local usage instead of English one". - Best regards, Ev (talk) 08:32, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
We would like to have the albanian names listed as well for the wikipedia articles. I want to be able to find the articles using the common names and english names versions of the albanian names.

please stop reverting my edits. adding the common names for the places by the local speakers. This means you (talk)

please stop reverting my edits (talk). I am adding the common names for the places by the local speakers. Please dont revert them. thanks, mike

RfC: Can we include the local names of the towns as well?

Can we not include the local names in addition to the serbian names in Kosovo articles? It is common place on the official Kosovo article. Yet, user User:Tadija is reverting all my additions. James Michael DuPont 10:07, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

I have asked for this page to placed under protection because of the reverts from user User:Tadija http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection#District_of_.C4.90akovica_.28edit.7Ctalk.7Chistory.7Clinks.7Cwatch.7Clogs.29

I would suggest that Albanian language names (or Kosovan) names could be given alongside the Serbian ones. The status of Kosovo is inevitably controversial. The NPOV principle implies using both. If User:Tadija is reverting this, he is a vandal and should be blocked. WP is not the right place for resolving conflicts over Serbian and Kosovan nationalism. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:21, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
I agree. Kosovan and Serbian names should be given. Dincher (talk) 22:04, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
