"I'm going to kill you, fucking pig!"
editDo we really need the above quote in the article? The profanity isn't even my main objection (although I do object to it in this context). The quote is probably taken out of context, too. It is an (emotional) attempt by the accused individual to defend themselves. The way it is presented here is condemning, and unencyclopedic (at least until the accused is convicted of arson). Renerpho (talk) 10:58, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- The point is that I can totally see myself saying the same thing, if I were (wrongly) accused of arson. The only thing it would show is that I'd be in distress. If the quote is given here to illustrate the mental state of the accused, or whether they did or didn't do it, then IMHO the quote is misplaced. Renerpho (talk) 11:06, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- RenerphoThe unexpurgated quote is in the affidavit of the arson investigator. I was looking for Maynard's date of birth and discovered that he had criminal convictions in at least two other states, https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2021/08/12/gary-maynard-columbus-ohio-accused-arson-dixie-fire-california/8101826002/ one of which has not been publicized so far, so was a bit surprised that he had subsequently been hired to teach in a number of universities. As far as the quotes, which I think should stay, I am reminded of the unconvicted Lee Harvey Oswald quotes, repeated often in Wikipedia, including his denials of guilt: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lee_Harvey_Oswald&action=edit§ion=13 In Roger Stone's article, there are many quotes about his purported innocence, and here's a threat he made against a witness: "You are a rat. A stoolie. You backstab your friends-run your mouth my lawyers are dying Rip you to shreds." "I am so ready. Let's get it on. Prepare to die cock sucker."[[4]] I think the quotes should stay. - @Activist: Oswald is a curious example, as the WP:LIVE policy doesn't apply to him (he was shot before he could face trial). Maynard is very much alive, and I hope it stays that way. Until he is convicted, his biography is of no interest to me. Renerpho (talk) 23:36, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

The first sentence should be amended to reflect the fire being present in Tehama County as well.
The Dixie Fire is an active wildfire in Butte, Plumas, Lassen, and Tehama Counties, California.

Why I merged the Devil's Punchbowl article into this one.
editFirst off, I went to school in Quincy. I worked in Canyon Dam and lived in Greenville. But the Devil's Punchbowl page is unnecessary. Everything said there is said here. This fire was huge and its impact was huge and terrifying. To us. But not so for the rest of the world and we need to fight for that perspective. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 06:48, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
