Well, I don't know for sure, but I believe he was. His relative (was he cousin or what..) Yarema Vyshnevetsky was a convert to Catholicism from Orthodoxy, so his family might have been Orthodox as well. —dima/s-ko/ 04:24, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

RE He was the first true Cossack hetman in history

Dmytro Wishnevetsky was really the first Cossak leader, however, he never titled himself hetman. Nor the idea of "Cossac hetmans" existed at the time of his life. --Nazar Saman (talk) 10:19, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

NPOV

This article is not really to do with Ukraine any more than it is to do with other current political entities in the region. Someone is going around prefixing everything with the word Ukraine for obvious political agenderising. For a start he was a Ruthenian, and the term and concept of an identity called "Ukraine" didn't exist when he was alive. This article should not be placed under things like "Ukrainian leaders" and "Ukrainian history", any more than it should be put under "Ukrainian teapots", it is about the history of Cossacks and maybe the history of Slavs. This and other articles like it need to be cleaned up and de-politicised, and supporting evidence provided for all these attempts at "Ukrainisation" of history: it's propaganda. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.208.52.129 (talk) 09:10, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
