Hair color
editIs it up to us to decide which birth defects are 'snazzy' and which are not? I'm going to edit out any personal bias until we can verify from educational or scientific sources that Doc Hammer's birth defect is really 'snazzier' than say, Down's Syndrome. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smith Jones (talk • contribs) 19:18, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

- I have a listing of birth defects considered snazzy by FDA. However, I am not going to tell you what they are. --68.164.170.20 (talk) 03:49, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
- Be quiet. I've just sent a message to Doc asking him if he considers his birth defect "snazzy." If he says it, we can quote him. --Diabolos (talk) 19:55, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Has anyone heard of this hair disorder? Like. What it's called. 'Cause that would be great. I can't find anything about this condition existing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.218.94.148 (talk • contribs) 06:10, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
vitiligo of the scalp causes hair color changes? That's not even possible... someone want to fix that? It is funny though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.193.42.122 (talk • contribs) 19:22, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- I wouldn't consider his hair to be a "birth defect". Apparently he just has vitiligo of the scalp, causing his hair to grow in two different colors. Who knows, it may not even be that, sometimes peoples' hair just does grow in two different colors. I went to school with a kid who had brown hair with a blonde patch in the front, and recently at my new school, had a class with a girl who had hair like Doc Hammer's (although not dyed black.) Weird stuff happens in genetics...just look at Billy Quizboy! --70.44.54.5 (talk) 18:34, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Age?
editI'm certain his date of birth is incorrect. I lived in the same college dormitiry with him and Ben Edlund when I was 18. A birthdate of 1976 would make him seven years younger than me and 11 at the time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.240.46.100 (talk • contribs) 20:20, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- You're right. Most likely, he's 38. But until he confirms or denies, he was born in 1976. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hazelfo (talk • contribs) 06:34, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think it was his Soulbot-themed MySpace page that began the confusion. For a while, it gave his age as "30" (though he has recently changed it to say "99"). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.66.132.200 (talk • contribs) 00:10, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- That, and, his IMDB page lists his year of birth as 1976. Doesn't it cost money to add that information to IMDB? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.12.116.130 (talk • contribs) 04:41, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- No. Anyone can submit it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.66.132.200 (talk • contribs) 22:03, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oh. Then. Hm. Maybe it was his Soulbot-themed Myspace page that confused everyone. Look what you did, Doc! (Someone should fix that IMDB page, too.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.188.116.73 (talk • contribs) 21:45, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think it's safe to say that his date of birth is at least 1967, seeing as his ex-wife's birth year is listed as 1967- according to to the former profile listed at her website [1], she married Eric/Doc at age 18. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Atomicfiction (talk • contribs) 01:59, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- As a note, Lisa Hammer was born in 1967. That might be an indicator that he was born before 1976. Faulty evidence, but evidence none the less. Plus, they were married in 1989. Which would have made him 13. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.218.94.148 (talk • contribs) 05:50, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- he graduated from ledyard high school in 1985 which makes him 39.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.234.230.129 (talk • contribs) 04:13, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
The birthdate database (http://www.birthdatabase.com) lists Eric A Hammer's birthdate as 02-02-67. Intelius.com's public records also list an Eric A Hammer (member of the same household and relative of Lisa Hammer) with the same 02-02-67 birthdate and a current age of 42. Ben Edlund was Doc's college roommate in 1987. If Doc were born in 1976, he would have been 11 years old when he attended college and roomed with Edlund. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ExquisiteMercury (talk • contribs) 17:49, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- Other sources say that his birthdate is February 11, 1976. I believe this would be most accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.44.54.5 (talk • contribs) 19:19, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- I graduated high school with him. I was born in 1967 and I'm pretty darn sure he wasn't 9 when we graduated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.60.220.110 (talk • contribs) 22:45, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I strongly believe it's 1966: [2]. NNDB is pretty accurate most of the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WestBounce (talk • contribs) 20:33, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't see anything on that site to give the impression that it's a "reliable, third-party, published source with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy". The site is in beta, is self-published, and declares that its main purpose is to be a sort of celebrity connect-the-dots. I'm really not comfortable with a site that, at best, is thought to be "pretty accurate most of the time". As this is a BLP, and it has already been demonstrated that there are conflicting sources giving different dates of birth for Hammer, I'm going to have to insist on a higher-caliber source before we go giving potentially false information about a living person. --IllaZilla (talk) 19:02, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- does ANYONE out there have definitive proof of his age? yearbook, anything... it is incredibly imperative that i get proof of his correct date of birth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deathsheadmoth (talk • contribs) 03:59, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- Nope, that's the whole point of this thread: there don't seem to be any quality reliable sources giving a definitive birth date. Why is it so imperative? --IllaZilla (talk) 04:37, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Well if ain't already been over a year, huh? Unlikely they would get a public record wrong: http://www.peoplefinders.com/d/Eric+Hammer/1-273470527 I knew it had to be either 66 or 67. I think this is legitimate enough. WestBounce (talk) 19:39, 30 May 2013 (UTC)WestBounce
Images
editI recently created an article about Hammer's current band, Weep. In doing so I ran some searches for freely-licensed images of Hammer that could be used here on Wikipedia, and created a category at Wikimedia Commons to house them: commons:Category:Doc Hammer. I've added an external Commons link at the bottom of this article.
There's been a bit of a brouhaha over at the Weep article over the image of Hammer that I chose to use. You can read that article's talk page for the details, but in a nutshell Hammer complained on Facebook about the photo used to represent him. One of his complaints was that it's not a very flattering photo...unfortunately that's a consequence of us only being able to use freely-licensed images; we have to take whatever people are willing to license for free use, and that usually means less-than-headshot-quality images. The reason I bring this up here is that the photo in this article's infobox is from the same set as the one in the Weep article, and it's not a particularly great photo of him either: He's mid-sentence, with his eyes squinted, so the look on his face is a bit odd, and his face is partly obscured by the microphone. File:Dochammer2010.jpg was recently uploaded to Commons, and might be a better one to use: his expression is neutral (at least he's not mid-sentence), the mic isn't blocking any part of his face, and you can even see some of his tattoos. It's not as high-res as the one currently in the infobox, but I figured I'd put it up for consideration to see if anyone feels like it's a better shot that could be used for the infobox.
As a related note, in sourcing the Weep article I turned up a rather lengthy interview with Hammer where he discusses his fashion, painting, and band. Here it is:
- Copping, Luke (10-2009), "The Gospel According to Hammer" ("".

This would be a good source to use in expanding this article. If a referenced section about his painting were written, it might be appropriate to illustrate that section with a fair-use image of one of his paintings. As another thought, if some referenced content about his voice work on The Venture Bros. were written (ie. not just which characters he voices, but how he comes up with voices for the characters and how he produces the voices), it might be appropriate to illustrate that using 1 or 2 fair-use audio samples. Just some thoughts. --IllaZilla (talk) 23:04, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
If there are no objections in the next day or so I'm going to be bold and change the infobox image to File:Dochammer2010.jpg. --IllaZilla (talk) 07:15, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
