Not necessary to tell the world Ten regenerates in the first paragraph

edit

I just came here to find out if "The Sontaran Stratagem' was a two-parter or not to see if I had time to watch it between classes! Put that spoiler about David Tennant leaving somewhere else in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.170.194.148 (talk) 16:03, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Read WP:SPOILER - we're an encyclopedia, we don't take note of spoilers. And besides, that happened five years ago. Barely a spoiler. AlexTheWhovian (talk) 16:31, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Why aren't the specials linked here?

edit

They use season 4 production codes and go by 4.15-4.18, as far as the crew of the show are concerned, it's season four. They should be included here, just as Voyage of the damned is considered season 4 because it uses a season 4 production code. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.149.50.71 (talk) 01:39, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, as there isnt a page for the specials, and if The Next Doctor is on this page we may as well add the specials to this page.81.131.107.180 (talk) 16:41, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

so, should someone insert the special episodes in the table? I can do that. it's obvious that this table, as it is, is terribly misleading because of its incompleteness DeABREU (talk) 16:48, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

The 2009 specials may have similair production codes, but that was only for convenience. They were produced entirely independent from Series 4, and as such, they are definitely not part of Series 4. EdokterTalk 17:09, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Alternate timeline/parallel world

edit

I don't know the exact origin of the term "time beetle", but it's not directly stated on screen in "Turn Left". The insect is only identified as one of the Trickster's Brigade. However, Donna is explicitly mentioned as having a parallel world created around her, rather than it being a common effect of the beetle changing lives (with the universe usually just compensating) after it latches on people's backs, and nowhere is the word "timeline" used in "Turn Left" in referring to that setting where the Doctor dies.

Tenth Doctor: Just got lucky, this thing. It's one of the Trickster's Brigade. Changes a life in tiny little ways. Most times the universe just compensates around it, but with you, great big parallel world.
Donna: Hold on. You said parallel worlds are sealed off.
Tenth Doctor: They are. But you had one created around you. Funny thing is, it seems to be happening a lot to you.
Donna: How do you mean?
Tenth Doctor: Well, the Library, and then this.
Donna: It just goes with the job, I suppose.
Tenth Doctor: Sometimes, I think there's way too much coincidence around you, Donna. I met you once, then I met your grandfather, then I met you again. In the whole wide universe, I met you for a second time. It's like something's binding us together.
Donna: Don't be so daft. I'm nothing special.
Tenth Doctor: Yes, you are. You're brilliant.
Rose: (in flashback) He thought you were brilliant.
Donna: She said that.
Tenth Doctor: Who did?
Donna: That woman. I can't remember.
Tenth Doctor: Well, she never existed, now.
Donna: No, but she said, the stars. She said the stars are going out.
Tenth Doctor: Yeah, but that world's gone.
Donna: No, but she said it was all worlds. Every world. She said the darkness is coming even here.

And prior to her being sent back in time, the only other description of the world is as a "world".

Donna: Who are you?
Rose: I was like you. I used to be you. You've travelled with him, Donna. You've travelled with the Doctor in a different world.
Donna: But I never met him, and he's dead.
Rose: He died underneath the Thames on Christmas Eve, but you were meant to be there. He needed someone to stop him and that was you. You made him leave. You saved his life.
...
Donna: I'm ready.
Rose: One minute past ten.
Donna: Cos I understand now. You said I was gonna die, but you mean this whole world is gonna blink out of existence. But that's not dying, cos a better world takes its place. The Doctor's world, and I'm still alive. That's right, isn't it? I don't die. If I change things, I don't die? That's, that's right, isn't it?

The term "parallel world" is also recalled by Donna in "Journey's End", although the scene also mentions converging timelines (which later in the episode is revealed to be her unique status as a human being with a Time Lord brain than anything).

Donna: In that parallel world, you said something about me.
Rose: The dimension cannon could measure timelines, and it's, it's weird, Donna. They all seem to converge on you.
Donna: I mean, what have I ever done? I'm a temp from Chiswick.
...
Donna: And I got the best bit of the Doctor. I got his mind.
Sarah Jane: So there's three of you?
Rose: Three Doctors?
Jack: I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now.
Tenth Doctor: You're so unique the timelines were converging on you. Human being with a Time Lord brain.

Okay. Great. Not sure what you're getting at? Alex|The|Whovian? 01:54, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Reference to User:Edokter's undone revision on the 30th here, and why this is misguided to do so almost entirely based on the name "time beetle". Sorry for lack of clarity. TardisTybort (talk) 01:58, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
So I see the term "timelines" mentioned several times. Why do you insist on calling them "parallel worlds"? -- [[User:Edokter]] {{talk}} 10:50, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Because the mentions to timelines there seem to be more about Donna's Time Lord status than anything (or anything directly) to do with the world seen in "Turn Left". TardisTybort (talk) 20:33, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Might be relevant to point out the articles on Parallel universe (fiction) and Alternate timeline both make reference to each other (plus several other terms) as amounting to about the same thing. I would lean towards alternate timeline as parallel universe is slightly more suggestive that the world could be more different than what it was in the episode.
