Move proposed
editThe majority of references spell the subject as "doghole" not dog-hole.
- Exploring Historic Shipwrecks Along California's Redwood Coast
- ODD OLD NEWS: AN 1884 LOOK AT DOGHOLES, LUMBER LOADING CHUTES, AND THE ROCKPORT SUSPENSION BRIDGE
- DOGHOLE PORTS PROJECT: AUG 1-9, 2016
As does a book about the subject, Jackson, Walter A. 1977 The doghole schooners : the ship builders, "dog-hole" captains, wrecks and locations, ports of call, ship owners and the schooners of early coastal shipping. Bear & Stebbins, Fort Bragg. CA.
Furthermore, the subject ought to be singular. The encyclopedia article describes a "doghole port", a (noun) what they are, and provides relevant examples. The article ought to be moved to Doghole port. — btphelps (talk to me) (what I've done) 09:38, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. I vote for keeping the title plural, since the multiplicity of these is part of what makes them a Thing.
- No strong views about the hyphen, though the hyphen does make the name far more readable and understandable. So if the title is changed to drop the hyphen, some explanation should be added that the uncommon word is a combination of the words dog and hole, and is pronounced that way.
