Dolomite problem
editA description of the issue and a link might be provided to Dolomite_(rock)#The_dolomite_problem_and_primary_dolomite. It appears to have recently been solved in any case e.g. ‘Dolomite Problem’: 200-year-old geology mystery resolved | University of Michigan News (umich.edu) Geopersona (talk) 11:51, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- The link to the Kim et al. (2023) article in “Science” claiming to have “solved” the dolomite problem is here.

- If you scroll down to the eLetter section, two of the letters point out that Kim et al. very likely mis-indexed their selected area electron diffraction data (an easy thing to do for those inexperienced with interpreting SAED patterns). Therefore, it is unlikely that they synthesize an ordered dolomite phase in their laboratory experiments. The eLetter by Xu et al. (2024) concludes: “…the dissolution-precipitation model proposed by Kim et al. does not result in ordered dolomite in the laboratory and cannot explain the abundance and variation of dolomite in geological history.” 184.96.165.74 (talk) 16:12, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
