The result of the move request was moot. Same-sex marriage in Maine already exists, so this article cannot be moved there. A merge is possible, but should be discussed at Talk:Same-sex marriage in Maine. -- Aervanath (talk) 21:05, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Maine Senate approved same-sex marriage bill. It goes to the House, where it is expected to pass. We should begin the transition now before things get crazy —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iwasblueonce (talkcontribs) 17:42, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment are 'domestic partnerships' restricted to same-sex couples or can heterosexual couples also get them? If heteros can also get them, then a new article should be built. 76.66.202.139 (talk) 04:59, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Marriage Bill has now been signed by Governor. If a People's Veto does not succeed or does not make it on the Ballot, Gay Marriage shall be legal in Maine.--Occono (talk) 17:30, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

What is happening to the current domestic partnership in Maine?

edit
  • So OK same-sex marriage is legal from September 2009, so were does that leave domestic partnerships then - will they be repealed?
  • Also one more thing - do opposite-sex couples (over 18, not over 62) get to register domestic partnerships, just like same-sex couples (over 18) currently do????

Now I am a FULL supporter of same-sex marriage and warmly welcome the law, however I think that we also need to go back and fully make sure that domestic partnerships are equal to marriage (in regard to benefits, rights, oblegations, responsibilities and entitlements - just like the Californian and DC domestic partnership models). Currently only a FEW "measely" rights are granted with the current laws. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.148.207.230 (talk) 16:22, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The current status of LD 1118 is here. I would expect no further action on it (in this session anyway) as the legislature went for full marriage equality instead and anyone who wants all the rights and responsibilities of marriage can now, you know, just get married. As for the current status of domestic partnerships, the new law does not affect them at all; they continue to exist and are open to both mixed- and same-gendered couples as they were before the passage of the new marriage law. (Note that domestic partnerships are automatically dissolved at marriage, so domestic partners can now "upgrade" to full rights by simply getting married.) I don't think they will be repealed anytime in the near future; I believe the legislature would wait at the very least until after any potential people's veto of the new marriage law. — confusionball (talk) 17:09, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
