FYI, there's a conflict in sources as to Steffes' exact dates in the legislature. "Kansas Legislators, Past and Present" only lists him as being in the Senate through the 1998 session, but the Legislative Directory for the 2000 Session still lists him as a member. Given that the legislative directory is the more authoritative source (and the absence of any evidence for a Senator between Steffes and Jay Emler, who took office in 2001), I am assuming that this is a typo in "Past and Present" and listing his service dates as the full term ending in 2000.
