Reads like propaganda
editI travel to Dongguan regularly on business, and this doesn't sound like the dirty sprawling messy industrial city I know. I don't know who labelled the city authorities "progressive" (definition?), but the reality is that several neighbouring townships all competed to attract overseas investment with little planning until they grew and merged into one conurbation and it was incorporated as a city. Now the city government is trying to make improvements, but the city still compares unfavourably with the more orderly planning of its southern neighbour Shenzhen. As for being little known compared with Shanghai and Shenzhen, this is probably bvcause unlike them, it has few attractions for non-business visitors.
Can someone with more detailed knowledge have a go at rewriting this article?
I agree that this is pure propaganda. THe town is also famous for the worlds largest shopping mall - the south chinese mall - which is a total ghost town and one of the largest visible argument to failures of the china economy model. A good link to this is Utopia, Part 3: The World’s Largest Shopping Mall —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.205.40.198 (talk) 10:48, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Population
editIs it 7 million or 1.6 million? 122.167.134.143 19:06, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
That probably depends on whether you count permanent residents only or include migrant workers. There are literally millions of the latter in factory dormitories in the area, but their household registration is elsewhere in China. Rodparkes 02:46, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Visas
editI'm pretty sure most nationalities need a visa, and I doubt if Americans can get one at the border.
must-pass-by?
editDongguan is a must-pass-by locality from Guangzhou to Hong Kong by road or waterway
must pass by could mean don't bother to stop there (pass it by), or you can't avoid it when making this journey. I suspect it should be the latter, this should me made clearer —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Timdownie (talk • contribs) 11:39, August 20, 2007 (UTC).
No map?
editNo map showing the city's location in the province? I'd make one myself, but I don't really know how. Would someone who knows how be willing to do it? Heimstern Läufer (talk) 21:39, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Which part of Guangdong?
editIt's in south-central Guangdong, not central Guangdong, correct? 173.88.246.138 (talk) 17:26, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
