On 4 Nov 2007, I expanded this article, and added the sentence : The water for the canal was supplied by Steven's Water Engine Pit, which pumped water from the mines until its demise in 1928. I am normally very careful to quote all my sources, but for some reason did not do so in this instance. I did not make it up, but have no idea where it came from. Most of the rest of the info came from the Oakengates website, and although it was archived on the wayback machine in 2007, the saved page does not show most of the information.

I recently tried to track down the source for this. There were only two hits. One was the Shropshire Canals site, which states that Wikipedia claims that water for the canal was supplied by Steven's Water Engine Pit, which pumped water from the mines until its demise in 1928, but it is not known where this is. The other was a book called "Abandoned & Vanished Canals of England" which says: It is said that water was also supplied by Steven's Water Engine Pit, which pumped water... but I cannot see the full quote. I suspect this refers back to Wikipedia. So although two sources mention it, both can be traced back to this article, so cannot be used as sources. Bob1960evens (talk) 22:49, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

It does not mention Steven's Water Engine Pit, but the book "Shropshire Canals" mentions pumping engines and other details of water supply. Bob1960evens (talk) 08:39, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
