When this page is polished, we may consider put it under the subcategory Chinese card games. Balabinba 13:22, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Joker identification

edit

Currently the terms "colored" and "B&W" are used, and the latter is linked to a disambiguation page, which isn't ideal. I realise that "black and white" in full is rather long so could "colored" be changed to "red" and "B&W" changed to "black" instead? Rich257 (talk) 19:34, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rich257. If you look at the Wiki page Joker (playing card) you will notice that they describe the Jokers as Black and White and Colored Jokers, I have used this reference based on the 'Joker' Wiki article. Can you please give an example where a game describes the Jokers as "Red" and "Black" ? --Jaywon melb (talk) 07:41, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

In China, Jokers are printed as either red or black. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.80.111.115 (talk) 02:57, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kicker

edit

What is a "Kicker"? There is no introduction to this term but it's used several times in the article. It should be explained prior. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.103.146.226 (talk) 08:55, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

A kicker is a card that is "tagged" to a three of a kind of four of a kind. Three of a kinds are allowed 1 kicker, whereas four of a kinds are allowed 2 kickers. The value of the kicker is irrelevant. I assume the term "kicker" is borrowed from Western card games, like poker. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.80.111.115 (talk) 03:00, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Linked to Kicker (poker) for clarification. --IanOsgood (talk) 15:35, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Geography

edit

Huangshan District is IN Anhui province. Chengdu is NOT one of the "directly controlled municipalities." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.126.230.79 (talk) 06:51, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

special cards in straight

edit

Jokers can't be used in straight, but 2 and A are definitely allowed in straights (of 5 cards or more). The only restriction is that for any straight involving A, A must be either the top or the bottom card (or both A23...QKA is ok). No restriction at all if A is not involved. So A2345, 89TJQKA, 234...QKA are all valid, but JQKA2, KA2345 are not. --31.221.13.140 (talk) 12:13, 21 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

That's not correct. 2 is not allowed to be in a straight, and A cannot be treated as the bottom card for a straight.

Unintelligible Statements

edit

I don't understand the following sentences. I'd appreciate clarification:

Scoring rules:
"No deals played. If the player doesn’t deal any card in a round, the final score will be double." [What player is referred to? The Cop? Any player?]

Variation:
Four-handed Dou Di Zhu:
"Nor are there "four of a kicker" categories." [Is four of a kind meant?]

Gameplay section largely missing?

edit

I'm baffled by what appears to be a fairly major omission on this page... after the bidding, how does gameplay proceed? It would be amazing if someone more familiar with the game could add some details on how the game is actually played....

Illegal play with the kicker

edit

This section claims that playing some specific types of cards is illegal. I don't know, this could be true in real life games, but it is not referenced. As a matter of fact, I know that all of them are legal in the Tencent game (the most popular version). I even found a video of each of the allegedly illegal cards being played. Rank of the kicker = rank of the primal cards: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1iq4y1N7Jd Dual solo = pair: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1364y167Qx Dual pair = four of a kind: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Nf4y1w7fu Rocket = kicker cards: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1L54y1E7Ue — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.212.64.99 (talk) 22:11, 30 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Place of Origin

edit

> The actual place of origin for the game is in Hubei Province.

> Dou dizhu was once just a provincial game in China, originating in the Huangshan District and Anhui.

Which is it? Does it originate in Hubei? Or does it originate in Anhui? (Huangshan District is in Anhui, unless you're talking the minuscule Huangshan District in Wuhan, so it's also redundant to word it this way.) 2605:2700:0:3:0:0:4713:9D8A (talk) 07:15, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
