I have created this stub because, it is in the spirit of Wikipedia's "Neutral Point of View" to include all of the qualified candidates who run in a general election. At the very least, a directory, (with basic information), of Michigan politicians should contain biographical information on the five politicians who ran for Michigan's highest office. If any Michigan politicians (in addition to those who are elected) are notable, it is they.

I have included the reason for interest (Candidate for Governor in general election), and an unambiguous identifier (birth date). I have also included a few links. This should be enough lead information from which to locate additional sources and compose an article.--Libertyguy 00:27, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Don't Merge with Michigan gubernatorial election, 2006

There is a template on this article suggesting that it be merged with the Michigan gubernatorial election, 2006 article. There is absolutely no rational or further discussion given on this topic leading me to wonder why the template is there.

I disagree with a merger. Douglas Campbell is a notable figure, and should have a separate article as do other candidates in the same election. --Redandready (talk) 01:11, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Keep this article as a separate entity. While this stub requires further development to become a worthwhile article, the contributions of Douglas Campbell to Michigan's political landscape are significant. His political activities predate 2006. In 2002 he received significant media attention when he was arrested for attempting to debate his opposition. This discussion appears to be non-controversial, and template removal would be in order; a glance at the designated discussion page, "Michigan gubernatorial election, 2006" shows no consensus in favor of merging these articles. --Libertyguy (talk) 14:50, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Removing dubious Obituary section

There is no meaningful reference given for the alleged aircraft incident. But even if the accident and the allegedly resulting erroneous obituary could be confirmed, neither would be relevant for an encyclopedia entry. --ThorstenNY (talk) 03:48, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Alternative to Deletion

I have requested that this article be undeleted. The request was granted, and I think this subject is notable. Since a previous deletion was successful, I doubt there would be enough support by other editors to preserve this page. If there is support for preserving this page, please post a comment here.

If there is insufficient support for preservation, I will copy the content of this stub into a section in the Michigan gubernatorial election, 2006 article. I will then convert this article to a redirect page rather than delete it. Redirection to the main article will ensure that other articles that link to it will still reference information on the correct "Douglas Campbell" while respecting the belief of other editors that this article does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for notable biographies. I would have already done this, but I don't want the page blanking to be mistaken for vandalism.

I do not believe this article would survive an AFD, as all references are to do with his failed bid for Governor, he seems to have 0 coverage otherwirse. I recommend to do as you recommend and make this a redirect to the election articles.- McMatter ^(talk)/_(contrib) 00:22, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

In digging deeper, I found a discussion here: Talk:Michigan_gubernatorial_election,_2006#Douglas_Campbell that indicates there had been a merge discussion, and the outcome of the discussion was to keep.

@Mcmatter: I can no longer "make this a redirect to the election articles..." as we discussed. It is now nominated for deletion and the template prohibits "blanking" the article, as would happen in a redirect. Keep the article "Douglas Campbell (Michigan politician)" as a separate entity. I have come across Doug Campbell numerous times over the past decade while working on progressive and civil libertarian issues in Michigan. He will no doubt continue to run for office and work on these causes in the future. His page may need a little cleaning up, but he certainly deserves a page. Keep the article "Douglas Campbell (Michigan politician)". Campbell was a important figure in the Green Party and in numerous issue activism organizations in Michigan. There has been no rational given as to why the article should merged and know one seems to agree that it should be merged. Due to the consensus I am removing the tag.
