Downtown San Jose station → Downtown San José station – The diacritical mark appears over "José" in official BART and VTA publications, including on the official BART system map effective June 2020, which is by far the most prominent published work mentioning this station by a proper name, at least for now. The diacritical mark would also be consistent with Berryessa/North San José station. Minh Nguyễn ^💬 18:31, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Mildly Agree: Well, right now, the media appears to not be applying diacritics [1] [2] and indeed the sign on the front of the "BERRYESSA NORTH SAN JOSE" station doesn't even have one [3], even though the new BART map does. Tough call though. Wikipedia:Diacritical marks seems to be neutral on the subject, but Wikipedia:Article titles says the official title is ok as long as ample redirects are provided. @Mjdestroyerofworlds: BART is following the City of San José's convention of including the accent mark in most signage but omitting the accent mark in all caps. [4] Neither the Chronicle article nor the Mercury News article is referring to the downtown station by name, only descriptively. See Talk:Berryessa/North San José station#Official station name for more discussion that led to the Berryessa station's article title to regain its accent mark. – Minh Nguyễn ^💬 21:35, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

@Mxn: Omitting diacritics on capital letters is not just their convention, but the one used by most western European languages (French does it as well).--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:42, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

@Jasper Deng: Right, I just meant that the City of San José follows that convention (and doesn't really do much to educate the public about it). – Minh Nguyễn ^💬 20:18, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

• Support – Using the city's (and station's) actual name with diacritical mark makes it more recognizable, and signals the correct pronunciation for readers who are unfamiliar. There is no downside. Dicklyon (talk) 03:50, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

• For now, merge all this content to a new section called Santa Clara station (VTA)#Downtown San José station. Since both of these stations are going to essentially form one transportation complex on that street block once completed, with the exiting VTA station at street level and the BART one below ground, we are going to inevitably merge these two articles anyway.   • @Zzyzx11: I don't agree. We do not list stops on the Market Street subway as equivalent to their corresponding surface stations. Reliable sources have considered them separate, much more so than with Milpitas. Note that VTA light rail stops along this part of the line are actually in the form of a one-way couplet–the north- and southbound platforms are separated by a block, although they are considered the same entity ([5]).--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:34, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

        • To clarify, I prefaced my comment "for now". Once VTA and BART name the entire new transportation hub, we would move the article again to that new name. But apparently from your comments here, you guys would prefer to keep the two pages separate for now until VTA/BART makes it official, which I will concede may up to be nine years from now based on the projected opening.
