Skullcap

edit

he always wears a purple skullcap; it has been suggested that the skullcap is non-removable

i could be mistaken, but it appears that in the recently released 1st issue of the new Drax mini-series, the big man is sans skullcap, sporting simply a bald green head.12.47.223.8 21:15, 4 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Isn't there a Starlin picture we could use to show his original appearance ? -- Beardo 16:13, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Drax's Powers and abilities: Erroneous Posting??

edit

There is a paragraph in the "Powers and Abilities" section whereby the poster claims that Drax can rip apart planets.

I don't EVER remember Drax having that kind of power in any of his incarnations. Did these events ever actually happen with Drax...and more importantly, did he perform these feats with the aid of the Power Gem??

In Iron Man #55 which was his first appearance he and Thanos destroyed a planet by fighting on it. No power gem involved.

Please respond, as I wish to alter the entry in the near future to both correct the error, if it is indeed one, and to update the entry. Thanos777 16:13, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Drax was recently in the Legion of Super Heroes (animated series), but Legion of Superheroes is DC Comics, and Drax is from Marvel. Brigid 18:10, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Being sort of a geek about character strength levels I remember very specifically in an issue of "Infinity Watch" or whatever it was called, that Drax was tested, and WITH the aid of the power gem had strength that was comparable to the Hulk. The Hulk is very consistently regarded as the strongest of humanoid creature in the Marvel Universe. The only character I recall ever being definitively stronger was the original Abomination. Avengers Assemble

edit

Yes, the book stars the cast of the movie, but no, it is not movie continuity. See Iron Man's armor, the ultimate nullifier, the mentions of past history between the Avengers and the Guardians, the cosmic cube not being called a "Tesseract", or just about any of the content. Shoot, look at the logo on the cover. It's the comic logo, not the movie logo, which was used on movie continuity comics like Fury's Big Week, or the Black Widow mini.

To boot, the solicit for #8, the final issue, mentions it's setting up events for the new Avengers series starting in November.

If you have any source, or even just a reason, to believe AA is movie continuity, please provide it. Otherwise, please stop removing sourced info from the various pages. Argento Surfer (talk) 13:00, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

It cant be in the 616 continuity either so I just assume it was from the movie world. --98.216.246.173 (talk) 17:24, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Why can't it be in 616? Terrible writing aside, the characters are all in current 616 uniforms, and there are numerous references to other 616 events, like the Ultimate Nullifier or Avengers Mansion being repeatedly destroyed. Argento Surfer (talk) 18:44, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
some of the members they are using are dead plus thanos, and some members that was last seen on the team are not on the team. I dont know about Star Lord's uniform isn't he suppose to wear a mask? Also the Avengers I think act more like from the movie. --98.216.246.173 (talk) 23:45, 16 August 2012
No, some of the members just haven't explained how they came back. ;) The roster change I chalk up to Rocket gathering those he could find after Annihilators: Earthfall. The acting, well, Bendis is doing a terrible job writing. Issue 9 has been confirmed as part of Marvel NOW!, so that should dispel any doubt about it being in 616. Contradiction...

edit

Having just read the entry on Drax's history, it says in one section that his mind was restored at Moondragon's request 1996, then in another that it happened when his body was remade in 2006. Which is it? Or did the 2006 author just not know about the previous story? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loomborn (talkcontribs) 14:52, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

It's both. The 1996 story had poor sales, so relatively few people knew his mind restored. The writer of the 2006 story (and the book's editor) may have been unaware of the event, or they may have decided to ignore it since it wasn't done very well anyway. It's also possible Drax was re-damaged in some untold event. Argento Surfer (talk) 21:41, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

any inspiration from the 1940s character?

edit

I've been reading the original Jim Starlin issues of Iron Man and Captain Marvel that introduced this character: his original costume looked very familiar, and I realised it is almost identical to the Golden Age Destroyer ... compare the covers of Mystic 6 with Captain Marvel 58, in these pages ... also the other characters hardly ever call him Drax, just "The Destroyer"

I don't know about Starlin, but Roy Thomas was the editor for all these issues, and he of course created the (Silver Age) Vision, inspired by the Golden Age Vision, and was generally obsessed with reviving Golden Age characters...

have either Thomas or Starlin ever commented on any intention to make Drax a modern update of the Golden Age character?

J Edward Malone (talk) 16:34, 27 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Roy's introduction to the Captain Marvel masterworks discusses the origins of Thanos in detail, but I don't recall any mention of Drax. This indicates Starlin was designing the character prior to working for Marvel. I always thought he looked similar to Phantom. Argento Surfer (talk) 18:14, 27 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I agree, the two destroyers are obviously versions of the same character. Identical looks and costumes (the skull brooch in particular is revealing); both have been part of the Guardians of the Galaxy. I think the pages should be merged. Or at least, they should mention the existence of each other. Nicolas Le Novère (talk) 22:13, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

The name "Arthur Douglas" combines the first names oF Douglas Adams and his main character, Arthur Dent.

This is just coincidence - Drax the Destroyer appeared five years before Douglas Adams started HHGG Argento Surfer (talk) 18:32, 14 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
