Suitable citations for new Onion URL
editPaging User:Rhododendrites, what is an acceptable citation for the current v3 Onion URL (dreadytofatroptsdj6io7l3xptbet6onoyno2yv7jicoxknyazubrad.onion)? Is it accepted that 0x6133ACE1F4B87C51DBF3FEA5E8610510F9A6E922 is the fingerprint of HugBunter's PGP key, that the key is uncompromised, and thus a message which is signed by that key will suffice? Are resources such as dark.fail accepted? Similarly, is a citation needed to mark the v2 address (dreadditevelidot.onion) as defunct? It is clear to see that it no longer works. — JivanP (talk) 05:50, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
- @JivanP: Because of how messy onion urls can be, and the great potential cost to the reader of going to the wrong one, Wikipedia tends to want a reliable source to back up the address and to err on the side of exclusion otherwise. So like Silk Road (marketplace) cites a book and Business Insider. The current Dread url is from The Register. DeepDotWeb was one source (though a kind of controversial one -- no clear consensus about its reliability) but, well, that's gone. I don't know anything about dark.fail. It doesn't look to have a lot of information about it or the kinds of things we'd look for when assessing WP:RS. @Deku-shrub: you know of it? — Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:30, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
- I think dark.fail or Darknet live would have to be built with sources showing itself they arer eliable so that can be cited. Otherwise there's no google news hits on the new url so nothing easy to cite to high standards Deku-shrub (talk) 13:21, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Deku-shrub: what is the stance on PGP-signed messages as primary sources? — JivanP (talk) 07:54, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- Unlikely to be supported as is. The idea is that the Wikipedia reader shouldn't have to do such validation of their sources. If another reliable source has done so however, that source can be used Deku-shrub (talk) 15:39, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Onion Link
editWhy is the onion link not allowed as an "External Links" section? Other wikis allow it. How is this different? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.126.241.101 (talk) 17:56, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
