Cover art

edit

The source for File:Beyonce-DrunkInLove.jpg is [1], which cites Getty Images as its source. However, when I search for the image elsewhere, nothing turns up. Since the song has not been released for sale separately from the album, it would surprise me that there is in fact cover art. I will remain dubious of its authenticity unless it is posted or shown by Columbia or Beyonce. Adabow (talk) 21:32, 19 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

That's what I gave above. But how does a cover exist if it doesn't accompany a purchasable release? Adabow (talk) 04:50, 22 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
If nobody has any reasonable objections, I will remove the cover in the next few days. Adabow (talk) 04:16, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I totally disagree with the fact that the cover isn't real! Power 105.1 is a reliable source, so I don't see why you're making a big deal out of this @Adabow! Even other users have discussed that the photo was pretty reliable, so why are you trying to make a point because there's no problem here! ChicagoWiz 06:02, 4 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Cover art by definition accompanies the release. Since the single has only been sent to radio, and not made available as a separate purchasable product, there is nothing to be accompanied by cover art. Furthermore, the radio station is the only source that gives this image - I would expect Sony or another representative of Beyonce to publish this cover somewhere if it were official. Radio stations do tend to accept gossip and rumour as fact reasonably easily. Even reliable sources get thing wrong sometimes! Adabow (talk) 06:11, 4 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

With respect to File:Drunk in Love.png, which Status added, the remix isn't even available for purchase, so how can there be any cover art for it? Adabow (talk) 03:52, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I don't think we should use it because that's a caption from the website page; if they do post a cover art even if the song isn't available for purchase, it counts as cover art regardless. Prism 10:46, 16 February 2014 (UTC) EDIT: I have just copied the link of the website image and it is actually the cover. Keep it. By the way, hasn't anyone received a Columbia/Parkwood newsletter which contained the single covers for both XO and Drunk in Love? Prism 10:48, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
So you're saying any image which relates to a song in any way can be classed as cover art? Great, the music video headings will provide "cover art" for all 17 songs from Beyoncé. Adabow (talk) 11:00, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Spare me the irony, please. I'm trying to be helpful, though it may not always be like I said. If any of us had access to the Columbia newsletter we could post them as official covers, as they would have been handed by the label. Prism 11:08, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for biting. But really, unless Columbia Records says "this is the cover art for xyz", we cannot use any given image that does not accompany a release. Since there is not separate purchasable release for "Drunk" (yet, anyway), we cannot claim that an image is cover art. That's plain original research. Adabow (talk) 11:16, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
So three different users, count me as four, agree that it is the official cover and one user thinks it is not, consensus leans towards the former. Just because you disagree does not mean you get to edit war Adabow. More reliable sources: [3] and [4]. STATic message me! 02:42, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Consensus isn't just about obtaining a majority; it's about developing reason for taking an action. So far we only have sources effectively saying "look, here's a picture related to Drunk in Love!". I haven't seen a copy of this image accompanying a single release. I know that this image appears in the album notes for Beyoncé, but if that is the only "official" association there is (i.e. it is the "song image", not the single cover"), then I don't know that that would satisfy WP:NFCC#8. Adabow (talk) 02:52, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Where is this guideline that says it must be used it that way? If reliable sources use it, so can we. If there was no retail release, but the image is still used in all promotional material, it still qualifies in the same way. STATic message me! 03:49, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
As for sources no. 3 and 4, they are some altered versions of the image that is currently used as the cover here, but they don't look the same – the text is placed differently. I agree with Adabow, as I haven't seen any reliable sources saying that it is in fact a cover for the single. — Mayast (talk) 23:39, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

After Kanye West’s remix and The Weeknd’s cover of “Drunk In Love”, T.I. is the next one to spit his bars on the chart topper.

#1 in South Africa

edit

Drunk In Love has gone #1 in South Africa this week (RiSA) although I can't find an online version of their chart. Anyone know if South Africa is ever added to these wiki's or not? --Lolcakes25 (talk) 11:23, 22 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Here. The link will need to be archived but webcitation.org is down for me at the moment. Links for charts - official and unofficial - can be found at WP:CHARTS. Adabow (talk) 19:50, 22 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
I saved an archive in the Wayback Machine [7] but it has messed up the format of the page so a WebCite archive would be better. Adabow (talk) 19:56, 22 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Acharts.us is not a reliable source, and the Portuguese Singles Chart they refer to is unofficial. See WP:BADCHARTS for more. Adabow (talk) 19:50, 22 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Drunk in Love" controversy

edit

Okay, seriously. After a long time semi-retiring, I have been searching for information about the song, and recently I have been known about a "shocking" truth that "Drunk in Love" lyrics address domestic violence, according to sources such as Mirror, Forbes, The Guardian or Time. The Jay-Z rapping line "I am Ike Turner…Baby know I don’t play. Now eat the Cake, Anna Mae" was a line from Tina Turner's biopic What's Love Got to Do with It (Ike Turner was Tina Turner's husband). Here's what Daily Mirror reported:

For those of you who, unlike me, are not obsessed with Tina Turner and did not watch the film of her life story – What’s Love Got To Do With It – almost 100 times, this line is from that film. Tina Turner, real name Anna Mae Bullock, has just released her own music single and two kids come up to her at a diner asking for her autograph. Not her husband Ike's. Ike is jealous. He tells her to "eat the cake" so they can celebrate her new and independent success. She doesn’t want any. He says "Eat the cake, Anna Mae" and when she refuses, he stands up, shoves it in her mouth and across her face. Her friend and backing vocalist tries to stop him. Ike threatens her, beats her and she runs away shouting to Tina Turner, "You are dead if you stay with him." It’s one of the most humiliating scenes in a film that charts the continuous rape and beating by a jealous and violent husband of his wife; a wife who goes on to become one of the biggest music icons, rock’n’roll icons, female icons, black female icons, and icons of recovery from domestic abuse, of the 20 century.

Okay, I'm quite shocked because this is one of my favorite songs, and it was released four months ago, but I have no idea that the meaning behind the lyrics is so controversial. Even this article doesn't have that information, either, although the sources existed a quite long time ago. — Simon (talk) 08:37, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • I have read some articles on it and personally I find it quite disgusting and contradictive relatively to the album's feminist ways. However this isn't a forum... Daily Mirror is unreliable, I think; there are better sources (just the last month I read a column talking about the Anna Mae line on The Guardian). prism 10:35, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Why is this section the longest in the article? It is non-neutral and places undue weight on the issue. It also reads like a piece of journalism or an essay. Can the facts of the controversy please be presented more neutrally? I'm especially astounded that prior to my edits Jay-Z was not mentioned in anyway. I've trimmed it down significantly, but I would prefer if some editors could look over it and gave some of their own opinions on what should go into it. Regards, —JennKR | 17:16, 24 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I am still working on it — Simon (talk) 04:46, 25 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Just a thought: maybe we could incorporate "Controversy" into "Composition" section [which also happens to discuss the song's lyrical content], or at least move it there as a sub-section, similarly to sampling controversy in "XO"? Mayast (talk) 01:24, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
The reception section would make for a better fit. Does the blockquote really need to be there, though? I agree with Jenn that it is unduly large. Adabow (talk) 02:24, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Mayast and Adabow, this should be incorporated into one of these sections where the lyrical analysis is more appropriate. , I've removed your edit again because as I stated earlier, your placing too much weight on the issue. I don't think we need to describe this issue in relation to the Grammy Awards or any live performance as all this does is tell the reader that a Jay-Z lyric (mouthed and sang by Beyoncé) is controversial as it refers to domestic violence. The context is not important. —JennKR | 16:10, 1 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well, but only as the couple performed the song at the Grammys as the controversy rose. — Simon (talk) 04:35, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

RIAA Certification

edit

--Asanders1011 (talk) 23:57, 2 June 2015 (UTC) I messed up, trying to edit the Drunk In Love Certifications box. I'm trying to have it look like this - 3,000,000±. The cross shouldn't be in the 3X Platinum boxReply

The ± symbolizes streams being taken into account along with digital sales for the certification.

And also - "Category:Singles certified triple platinumdagger by the Recording Industry Association of America" - in the region column needs to be removed.

Never mind, I fixed it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asanders1011 (talkcontribs) 02:28, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
