Croatian writer?
editWould Ugresic appreciate being labelled a "Croatian writer"? This
- The language I write was called until recently Serbo-Croat (or Serbian and Croatian), and it was the language spoken by Croats, Serbs, Bosnians and Montenegrins. Today people are trying to force me to recognise Croatian as my mother-tongue, and Serbian and Bosnian as - foreign languages!
is a quote from The Culture of Lies. OTOH, there'll presumably be a bunfight if we create a category Yugoslavian writers... -- Danny Yee 09:33, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- This is correct. She has very strong objections to being labelled as a Croatian writer and has commented specifically about this Wikipedia article. MichelCastagne (talk) 18:50, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'm trying to reach a compromise without having an edit war by noting with a citation that she publicly refuses to identify as a Croatian writer. MichelCastagne (talk) 01:01, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
Strega prize nomination: Something exceptional?
editCould we have a reference for this please? Not at all because I am doubting the claim, but because our article on the Premio Strega—for which I am largely to blame—states that the prize is only open to Italian writers. It would be interesting to update that article appropriately. —Ian Spackman 14:40, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Article Evaluation Assignment
edit- Hello everyone, my name is Tyler and I am in a class that is utilizing Wikipedia editing for several of our assignments. Our most recent assignment is to evaluate an article and leave our comments on its Talk page. I chose the Ugrešić article because she is a visiting author at my university. I mainly focused on two aspects: references and value judgments. The Background and education section seems to be missing several references, as are several other portions of the article. It also seems like several value-based claims appear in the Writing section, such as describing Ugrešić’s novels as magnificent, hilarious or eye-opening. I have decided to hold off on any possible edits until the future and would rather bring these to the attention of other editors. --TylerDC25 (talk) 16:31, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
