"The Sexual Politics Of Meat" (Carol J. Adams, 1990)

edit

Full disclosure - I haven't read this book yet! But it's a well known and influential text (with its own wiki page) and some of the ideas in it seem like they'd be very relevant indeed:

- the absent referent, or how the whole "we killed a living creature" aspect of meat is obscured and/or aestheticised, how this plays into masculine stereotypes about suppressing emotions and accepting, even celebrating, violence

- the book has an overview of meat and masculinity in popular and literary culture, which could help to fill in some of the gaps in the article

This is kind of a placeholder comment for future rewrites of this article - not sure yet if I can take that task on myself, but it seems more relevant than a lot of the references on what is currently a rather odd page, so it's here for anyone who's interested. 82.24.206.28 (talk) 04:48, 23 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
