Number of bordering baronies
editWhilst the number of bordering baronies stated (five) was correct for the source image used, the image dates from the end of the 19th century, and since then the southern portion of the barony has been relocated from Dufferin to Lecale Lower as shown here and here on the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland website. Hence Dufferin no longer borders Kinelarty and Lecale Upper and i changed the article to reflect this. Mabuska (talk) 21:11, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Although your edit is correct (for which much thanks), I'm not sure the analysis you give is. I don't think any barony boundaries were adjusted later than the commons:Category:Maps from P. W. Joyce's Atlas and cyclopedia of Ireland maps, other than one or two final subdivisions into separate baronies. I think the parish of Inch has always been part of (Lower) Lecale, not Dufferin; see Parliamentary Gazetteer 1846 or the Ordnance Survey first edition (click Historic 6-inch layer). I misinterpreted File:Baronies_of_Down.jpg, because Lower Lecale and Dufferin appear to be the same colour, either by poor design or fading of originally distinct colours. jnestorius(talk) 20:18, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- I was going to say that i don't think your misinterpreting the map, however i checked Lewis' Topograhical and in 1837 the civil parish of Inch is stated as being in Lecale. So the map is mistaken. Mabuska (talk) 22:11, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- It's not mistaken, it's just misleading. jnestorius(talk) 12:26, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- I take it back; this edition of the same map has Lower Lecale in its original green, distinct from Dufferin's yellow; and Inch is indeed erroneously coloured in yellow instead of green. Black mark for P. W. Joyce! jnestorius(talk) 21:03, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Tisk tisk tisk, i wonder what other mistakes he's made in his maps lol Mabuska (talk) 21:12, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
- I've also been going through all of the Northern Ireland barony articles i've created and adjusting the categories to fit better as well as adding in the WikiProject Ireland box on all the talk pages. I believe using "Baronies of County Foo" is the only barony type needed as it will contain the "Baronies of Ireland" and "Baronies in Northern Ireland" categories in it anyways. With that i've updated the system to be sorted by county as its easier to categorise both as part of Ireland and NI, as you can see here for example Category:Baronies of County Tyrone.
