Dunărea (disambiguation) → Dunărea – I don't see the reason for the Rumanian language name for "Danube" to redirect to the Danube. This is the English language Wikipedia, not the Romanian (see also reasons for deletion on Wikipedia:Redirect, point 8). It creates a unnecessary hatnote and I doubt it helps anybody. I've posted this question on the talk page of Danube, but nobody has given any more input. Joost 99 (talk) 17:16, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Support this is the English Wikipedia, not the Romanian Wikipedia. 70.24.251.208 (talk) 04:58, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Does it make any difference? Firstly this isn't "the English Wikipedia," it is an English language encyclopedia used by people of all backgrounds, for whom a disambiguation page giving the info that Dunărea is the Romanian name for the Danube River and then featuring Dunărea River, a tributary of the Danube, Dunărea, a village in Seimeni Commune, Constanţa County, FC Dunărea Călărași, a football team, FCM Dunărea Galaţi, a football team, Stadionul Dunărea, a football stadium, the home of FCM Dunărea Galaţi, FC Dunărea Giurgiu or FC Astra Giurgiu, a football team are all the kind of useful links one would expect to find on Dunărea (disambiguation). Whether that disambiguation page would be better at the actual Dunărea or at the current, what great difference does it make? Dunărea might be better redirecting to Dunărea (disambiguation). - I tried the redirecting to Dunărea (disambiguation), but that was undone, hence this step to move the page. The difference it makes is that the Danube article is not filled with unnecessary hatnotes for the other languages (there were more in the past, there are eight different language areas the Danube flows through). Of course I expect the contents of the disambiguation page to go to the Dunărea page. Joost 99 (talk) 08:38, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Support Yes, it does make a difference, see WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. It is not valid to have Dunarea redirect to the disambiguation page, we might as well move it. The present approach may be making it awkward for people to find the article they are looking for, and cluttering up the top of the Danube article. See a similar move discussion at Talk:Regina Maria. A minor point: can someone explain why the Danube and one of its tributaries have the same name in Romanian? PatGallacher (talk) 00:39, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- It appears that the Dunărea is a Râu (river), and the Danube is a Fluviu (large river), so if somebody says Râul Dunărea, they're talking about Dunărea River, while Dunărea refers to the Danube. TimBentley (talk) 01:41, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
