editThis article does not give any information about the game it was written about, and furthermore it doesn't follow the Wikipedia page format. Anyone with more information, perhaps who has played the game? Genocidal 03:59, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
I have the first Dungeon Explorer for the TurboGrafx-16 (side note - there may be multiple versions for different systems). It was a dungeon crawler that was more like Gauntlet with a storyline. The storyline being an evil demon (Natas, I believe, given its backward spelling) is corrupting the land and is seeking the legendary Ora stone. You had a large overworld to explore, but your initial paths were limited. Beating each dungeon would allow you to see more. You could also return back to dungeons, though there was little incentive. It is an enjoyable game, but a key perk was the ability to play with 5 players using the multi-tap. Granted, without it you were stuck playing single-player, but it was fun to try to play through, and had a few secrets to the game (such as the princess class). Bahaumaut 04:51, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
I've found reference to multiple games called Dungeon Explorer. The TurboGrafx-16 version seems to be, by far, the most prominent, however, so I put an infobox up for it. I think we should use this article for the TG16 version, possibly making reference to the others at the end.Miguel Cervantes 15:56, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
There's two games on the TG-16 systems, this one, and DE II on Super CD-rom. There's a Sega CD version that played nothing like the others, and a Super Famicom port called Crystal Beans. It plays a lot like DE II, same background graphics, some levels EXACTLY the same, but the players are now "super deformed" and overly cute. Bosses are dffrent, and players now have close-range attacks. --Ozzy 98 02:31, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
It should also be pointed out that Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of the Ancient Arts is available for the PSP. I know little of it, since I just purchased it today. --138.163.0.41 (talk) 20:32, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
The dual ending on the original DE from TGX16 is also worth to mention. For the alternative ending a password needed to be entered and later select a character...unfortunately I do not remember the exact sequence but I remember this was documented in one TurboGrafx magazine Guitrona~enwiki (talk) 05:02, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
Once you entered the password (DEBDE DEBDA) the character was granted with invisibility and then you could position your character into the King's throne (was vacant in the game progress) and reclaim the throne for yourself Guitrona~enwiki (talk) 05:04, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of Ancient Arts
editWhy does the title of a PSP game redirect to a completely unrelated article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.211.78.60 (talk) 02:44, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- It's actually not completely unrelated. The PSP/DS games of similar title are reworkings of the original game for which this is an article. The redirects can be replaced with actual articles for the PSP/DS versions once they exist as standalone content, but that isn't the case as of the time of this posting. D. Password System Positive Critic
editHello, I read the article which shows critics about the password System of the game. I want to clarify as a former gamer of the Turbografx16 and this original game the following: 1) The Turbografx-16 as a standalone console was and is unable to save games (no memory to do that) therefore you had passwords in some games like this one. 2) The Turbografx-16 video game system had several accessories. One of them was called Turbobooster plus. This accessory allowed to get a stereo sound output (RCAs cables) but also allowed know to SAVE. Some games were using this new feature better than others. The Dungeon Explorer game when used with a TurboGrafx-16 and a Turbobooster plus allowed now to save your progress of the game instead of using the password now you could retrieve a previous saved version and continue your game.
I did not have the CD player (accessory) of the TurboGrafx-16 but it used the same parallel port than the Turbobooster plus, to my knowledge it also granted the Hucards (as were called to the regular card games as this one) the ability as well to save games in the similar way than the Turbobooster plus.
It is also good to tell that this game also through the password System allowed to enter cheat codes (one very interested was DEBDE DEBDA) which granted invisibility and which allowed the game to have an alternate ending by sitting your Hero character over the Throne and then instead of saving the Kingdom from an usurper become one yourself... So instead of criticizing the password System I would praise it. Yes without the Turbobooster plus or the CD player was painful to record manually the passwords and write those down but it allowed to start over with your same level with 5 more continues (the saving progress alternative as well). Multiplayer characteristic
editAgain as a formal player of this game in the original Turbografx-16 console. I want to mention that something interesting was that the game had 5 continues when you died shared with all the gamers. Meaning that in a single mode great you have 5 continues but if you were playing with friends then the 5 were shared and could be used multiple times by any player...this was annoying but also gave a balance to the game, you had a team but less continues... Still the password System (or saved progress system through the Turbobooster plus or the CD player) allowed to restart with your team with your same status and to the maximum level. Hope someone could get the references for these features and eventually put it in the main page. Guitrona~enwiki (talk) 04:58, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
