Dungeon Siege trademark / property

It appears that the Dungeon Siege trademark/name/whatever seems to be now the property of Square Enix,
according to the press materials of DS3. It is not just a licence.
When & why was it sold, anyone know?

Similarity with Dungeon Master

Dungeon Master from way back also used the you-are-what-you-do class system. You'd chuck bits of dead creature around merely to level up your ranger skills, and hence your attributes --Paul 11:20, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

Roguelike

Surely DS ought to be classified as a Roguelike?

Well, technically speaking, Dungeon Siege uses the common gaming technique of a 2d-interaction surface. So the player character can only interact with the game in two dimensions...

Correct. By calling Dungeon Siege a Roguelike, we would be expanding the definition of "roguelike" too broadly, and ultimately would end up including nearly all RPG's. All RPG's draw their lineage from Rogue, but are not themselves roguelikes. (ft)

I'm not sure why it would be better classified as a Roguelike, which seems almost totally off-base. However, there is a very strong argument to be made that this game should be declared an action-RPG, akin to Diablo/Diablo 2 and others of the ilk, rather than a CRPG. 71.122.19.41 (talk) 13:47, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

and Stuff

I changed the order or the "External links" section, but apparently Mateusc objected to it. I had removed the "Official websites" sub-heading, removed the "and Stuff" wording from the "Reviews and stuff" subsection and moved the MobyGames link up to under the official websites. I don't really care if the MobyGames link is bunched up with the official websites, but it doesn't belong under "reviews." MobyGames has much more information than just reviews and, often, it doesn't have reviews at all, just other information on games, such as publishing date, screenshots, credits, etc.

But I really object to the "and stuff" wording. It is not encyclopedic. Furthermore, I restrained myself from deleting them, but it is against Wikipedia policy to link to reviews, which are inherently POV. Incidently, fan sites are also against Wikipedia policy, which we also have a section for in this article.

So I propose to delete the whole "Reviews and stuff" and "Fan sites" subsections, remove the "Official websites" sub-section and just leave the three really relative links. The wording "and stuff" is unencyclopedic. That's the first problem. The second is that we're not supposed to post links to the reviews—they're not encyclopedic either. If I had my way, we'd get rid of the fan site links too, but—Wikipedia policy or no—a lot of video game articles have them. Hyperborea

In the old version referenced "Lands of Hyperborea" as having been created by the Siegenetwork community. LOH was actually created by Jim Farris, it was not a community project. I would guess you're speaking about Dungeon Siege II. Valdis can't be killed by conventional means, you have to lure him into those "beam weapons" that are lined up in the room you encounter him in. Activate them when he's in front of them. 193.69.146.66 16:10, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

"Enemies" section

I don't want to delete the whole thing at once, as I'm fairly new, but I think the enemies section should be removed, as Wikipedia is not a strategy guide and from what I've played it's extremely limited. Technical requirements

We might want to include a mention that DS is imperfectly compatible with newer video hardware. Specifically, the cursor doesn't render properly on recent Macs. Instead, users just see a very large white square, rendering the game virtually unplayable. But Macs tend to suck for games anyway (Biased and flame-bating I know but true in my experience), it's not necessarily the video hardware but possibly a with problem the OS itself. Find out if the problem is still present with the same hardware configuration and different OS's before possibly including it. --89.240.205.59 (talk) 15:42, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Why doesn't this article mention the free bonus pack named "Return to Arhok"? It is mentioned in the Wiki article "Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna".
