Photographs

edit

I have a few photos taken in and around Dunham Massey, including the deer park, the house and from around Dunham Town, including the golf course and the Axe & Cleaver pub. I can put these up if anyone's interested. Chris From Sale 18:32, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Question about the mill

edit

In the History section it says "The mill at Dunham was first documented in 1353, when it lay on the River Bollin, opposite Little Bollington ...". This implies to me that the mill has moved, and is now no longer on the River Bollin, opposite Little Bollington. Is that the case? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Malleus Fatuarum (talkcontribs) 14:25, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good point, no it hasn't moved. Nev1 15:53, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

GA Review

edit

This article meets the Good Article criteria, and will be listed. It is well written and well constructed, with good prose. References are sufficient. True, it's missing a lot of the sections of a normal city article, like economy, culture, transportation, and education, but this is a very small town, so there probably isn't much infrastructure anyway. Good work! Dr. Cash 01:45, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Demographics -- qualifications

edit

I think the statement "Of those aged 16–74 in Dunham Massey, 42.0% had no academic qualifications, significantly higher than the 21.3% all of Trafford and 28.9% in England." might be inaccurate. From the reference, the 42% seems to refer to people with either no qualifications or only level 1 qualifications (1+ GCSE). I can't find data for England alone, but the comparable level in England & Wales is 45.65% according to tables available at Cheshire CC: [1]. Am I missing something? Espresso Addict (talk) 09:22, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for highlighting that, the figures should have included level 1 qualifications and have been corrected accordingly. Another reference giving the Trafford and England figures has been added. Sorry it took so long, but I've only just read the comment. Nev1 (talk) 17:54, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Population

edit

Is there any reason for the substantial decline in population in the twentieth century? Ausseagull (talk) 06:31, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

The obelisks

edit

Two obelisks are mentioned: Reference 18, the Langham Grove obelisk, erected by the "Earl of Warrington in memory of his mother", and Reference 59, in Whiteoaks Wood. The references say that both are said by tradition to mark the burial place of a racehorse. This seems so unlikely, that, if it is not an error it deserves comment.MikeSy (talk) 15:37, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dunham Massey Hall

edit

I am enjoying reading information about Dunham Massey Hall and it's history very interesting, due to as of recent finding out about my direct blood line connection to the Booth's of Dunham Massey. It is stated "The Booth family inherited most of Massey lands in 1409" that would have been during the life time of Sir John de Booth 1360 to March 22,1421(according to family history that I have found) who was born in Barton, and then his son Sir Robert de Booth 1384 to 9/16/1450 was born & died at Dunham Massey. Since he was born at Dunham Massey wouldn't the family have obtained the land before 1409? it is stated "By Elizabeth period, Dunham Massey Castle had been demolished. Probably during the medieval period" The last in my direct blood line I have found to be born at Dunham Massey was Sir George Booth born 12/21/1515 died 8/3/1543, so I take it this happened during his life time...correct? The Booth family played many great parts in England's History, including assisting in reestablishing the rightful King to the Throne. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sbooth59 (talkcontribs) 16:20, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
