Causes
edit"It is caused by lesions of the nervous system..."
I'm sure it is. But I'm also sure that's not the only cause. Anyone have access to sources that might help clarify and diversify the causes of dysesthesia? svadhisthana (talk) 05:32, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- I can't see any other cause. "Lesion" is a very general term for an injury. And considering dysesthesia directly relates to the nervous system, I can't see any other possibly cause. The rest of the article goes in to specific causes.
Over the top?
editFor a long time, I did not realize I had dysesthesia because of the language used in this article. The article links to a site on central pain made by a patient, and filled with rather drastic, and personal, language. It calls dysesthesia "Dante-esque pain" (as in Hell), and that patients "frequently lose their sense of identity." I believe we need to work on making this a more balanced and scientific article. - Cyborg Ninja 05:31, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- The whole article needs a rewrite, root and branch. Please have your way with it. I don't know if you're familiar with editing medical articles. You may find the little green strip at the top of Pain helpful in getting started. I'll back up any WP:MEDMOS- and WP:MEDRS-compliant changes you feel like making. Find reliable sources by searching PubMed and (for textbooks) Google Books. If you can't access a pay-per-view journal article, email me or ask at the medicine project and someone who has access will email it to you.
- You may find it more peaceful - nobody blundering in and arguing about half-formed sections, etc - if you create user:Cyborg Ninja/Dysesthesia, and work it up in your userspsace. Any questions:

Work in progress
editI've been editing this page as part of a class assignment. I welcome any suggestions for improvement.
- Comments from Biosthmors
- Consider replacing the list with prose in the causes section
- The WP:First sentence should define the subject, not be etymology. Consider placing the etymology in a background section.
- "defined as" is unnecessary. Just say what it is.
- WP:UNDERLINKING is present
- The facts in the lead should be cited in the body. If they are cited in the body, they do not need to be cited in the WP:LEAD unless they are controversial
- "It is sometimes described as feeling like acid". That's quite odd. How many people are familiar with this feeling? Remove? Or at least out of the beginning of the article?
- Linking to a plain url without any info isn't encouraged. See Wikipedia:Referencing_for_beginners#Information_to_include for an idea of what to do. Are you sure all of these sites are WP:RS?
- The WP:SEEALSO section only contains duplicate links, so remove it.
- I hope to give your more comments later. Thanks! Biosthmors (talk) 05:52, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
