editAlmost everything I could find about this business says that they were recognised as the oldest continuously operating African American owned business in the United States, but I can't find the primary source for this. Enough reliable sources repeat the claim that I feel comfortable putting it in here, but if anyone can find the primary source it would be appreciated!
