Same person?

edit

Leslie Edgar John Lonnen or Edwin John Leslie Lonnen? British and Irish Military Databases within The Naval and Military Press Ltd say Leslie Edgar John Lonnen, London Metropolitan Archives Death Register says Leslie Edwin John Lonnen and The Suffolk Regiment personal announcements say Edwin John Leslie Lonnen. Can we say this is the same person but with jumbled names? -- CassiantoTalk 00:13, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

What are the dates? His son was named Edwin John Leslie Lonnen. E.J. was Edwin Jesse Lonnen, according to the V&A museum. Your ref is a subscription site, or else is not viewable from the US, so I am not sure what you mean. Can you describe the issue more clearly? -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:01, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Leslie Edgar John Lonnen was born in 1890 and died in action on the 16 August 1916. This is confirmed on the British and Irish Military Database for fallen servicemen. The name in the London Metropolitan Archives, Register of baptisms however, gives the name of Edwin John Leslie Lonnon but with identical dates. I'm wondering if they are the same person?

I have since found E.J. Lonnen's father. He was William Rooles Lonnen (1833-1890) from Dorset. This was "Champion" and it appears his three children had "Champion" as a middle name. Edwin Jesse did not adopt this name. Edwin Jesse married Emily Morgan in the 1880s, and Emily survived Edwin by 30 years or so. No marriage certificate is available and this information comes from the UK census archive. -- CassiantoTalk 10:41, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Please add the citation for his father's dates, and please add the marriage info. As for his son, I think that the baptism info must be correct, but that by the time he was killed, he used "Leslie" as his first name, so that the names were incorrectly shuffled in the "fallen servicemen" database. Edgar is probably an error. Would you kindly add the baptism cite? -- Ssilvers (talk) 13:22, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Now done. I have added a reference for his actress daughter and one for his father. I cannot find a marriage certificate for E.J. Lonnen and Emily Morgan, only census records for which there are plenty. It does list her as "wife" and him as "head". Will this do? -- CassiantoTalk 18:03, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I think that is an acceptable ref for the fact of marriage and name of wife. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:51, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
