Question from a worried n00b
editWhat exactlty do they mean by "My IP has been logged?"
...And please, be nice. I'm obviously no computer wiz.
- Simply put, it means absolutely nothing. It's just useless scare tactics. You can't be prosecuted for accessing the page.
Anyways, explaining in simple terms what an IP is, it's a sort of an ID number associated with your internet connection. Whereever you go on the net, you leave that number behind. Sometimes it's fixed, sometimes it's variable. Depends on your ISP or connection. The number you see when accessing the Edonkey page, that's your IP. But as mentioned, it doesn't matter that you left it there, they can't do anything at all, as you broke no law. Just sit back, surf and don't worry. :)

editThis is a nice start. What I'd like to know as a reader is how this system differs from the Gnutella, Hotline, or other systems. That would include social differences (what sorts of files are popularly traded? Movies? Software? Images?) as well as technical ones. --FOo
Amule
editSeeing that aMule has become quite popular, shouldn't a link be added too—°==
The whole Edonkey / Overnet-thing is confusing. The article states "eDonkey2000 client is not "eDonkey" any more. It supports only Overnet Network by default" ...
only to later specify that
" In 2004, MetaMachines announced it would stop the development of Overnet to concentrate on eDonkey2000"
This seems a little contradictory. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.167.105.201 (talk) 05:47, 16 May 2005
I thought Overnet was a program itself...Amren (talk) 23:58, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
Missing information
editWhat is missing is information for network administrators wanting to fight it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.136.182.104 (talk) 11:50, 17 May 2006
DAP
editThe Digital Archive Project still uses the eDonkey 2000 application. Does anyone think it should be mentioned in the article? Calmsavior 20:10, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think you should add that to a page about DAP. :Leuk he 06:50, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Low Quality Article
editThis is a low quality article. As with many other low quality articles the original authors made many temporal references such as "current" and "latest" which inevitably results in problems later because sooner or later those words will not make sense. In this case the product is no longer has been discontinued. I would encourage those who agree to mark this article as being in need of a rewrite to bring it up to better quality standards. -- Horkana 23:17, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
editCyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
