After looking into a link on the disambiguation page to the "infamous Chicken Little article, a favourite of underground journalists", I can find no evidence on the existence of Earl Merkel, whether he is a legitimate writer, or was ever a published journalist at all. The only references to his work are on his own homepage, which is in a similar syntax to the aforementioned disambiguation link.
