editThere seems to have been another Viscount Mountcashel, namely Justin McCarthy. See comment below from Talk:Jacobite peerage --Henrygb 22:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- To my knowledge, McCarthy came from the Muskerry line of the MacCarthy clan, who had lands in modern counties in Kerry and Cork. See County Desmond. They had their property confiscated under the Cromwellian regime, but restored to them in the restoration. Justin McCarthy as made Viscount Mountcashel in 1688 or 1689, not long before his defeat at Newtownbutler. He was captured in the battle but later exchanged back to the Jacobites. He commanded the first Irish Brigade (French) and I think he died in exile in France. Hope that helps. Jdorney 11:22, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
