I've edited the 14->5th Earl in line with Earl of Perth. The issue arrises over the mistaken counting of those heirs between the attainder of the title and it's restoration as having held the title which by law they could not.
Looking at the rest of the article we probably need to explain what's happening as there are a few strange contradictions. For instance as the Duc de Melfort wasn't created in the French peerage what exactly was the Conseil d'Etat recognising? The article says a french title - which didn't exist - the other possibility would be the Scottish title which they have no jurisdiction to adjudicate upon. Alci12 12:43, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- The Conseil d'État recognized the recognition - i.e. the use of the title, not the validity of the title per se. 88.178.189.194 (talk) 18:10, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
