editIn the Brit Awards section of this article, I have edited some of the alleged actions of Jarvis Cocker, as one source is a BBC article of quite evidently irreverent and spurious descriptions of "Brits Behaving Badly", exaggerated for comical purposes. I've also made Cockers' subsequent statement more precise.

editHi. How about a "plea" instead of complaint. These are not ambiguous and have entirely different meanings, I think plea is more accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.234.9.35 (talk) 13:18, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Tour performance style?
editIn light of the Rolling Stone comments, does anybody agree there should be a section on how this song was performed on the HIStory World Tour? The tank arriving onstage was quite a notable moment. And for This Is It, it was similar (with bulldozer instead). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.141.22.43 (talk) 20:25, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Atma version
editGoa-Trance-DJ ATMA (composer) used samples of the "Earth Song" in his song, " Secrets of Meditation ". Is there any possibility to put it in the article? In which section would it fit? --84.113.33.181 (talk) 00:18, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Le Film Fantastique Best Video Award?
editThis is mentioned in the music video section of the page: "The music video for "Earth Song", directed by fine art photographer Nick Brandt, was expensive and well-received; it gained a Le Film Fantastique: Best Video Award in 1996..." I've found no evidence of this award and I've searched everywhere. Are we sure this wasn't a made up award? Besides the Ultimate Collection mentioning it in the liner notes, the award doesn't appear to exist and there's no video clip of Michael receiving such an award from France. Tonality
editThe article says "It is in the key of G♯ minor, but modulates to B ♭ minor .[1]" It rather seems to be in the key of E♭ minor, but modulates to F minor. Any thought? Odulon (talk) 20:15, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- The announced modification is now completed. Odulon (talk) 14:12, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Odulon: Do you have a secondary published reliable source for such claim? And no, I'm not asking if you know about music, because that seems to be the case any time people go and contradict what the sheets published by MusicNotes say. Refer to WP:No original research to know why your change is not correct. (CC) Tbhotch™ 01:01, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Tbhotch: I do not have "a secondary published reliable source", but neither does the person who claimed that it is "in the key of G♯ minor"; indeed I do not see "G-sharp minor" written on the sheets published by MusicNotes. Now, the sheets show that the key signature has 6 flats. Hence it cannot be G♯ minor, which has 5 sharps. In view of the key signature page, it can only be G♭ major or E♭ minor. Next, by ear and by sight, the song is minor (with Picardy thirds). Conclusion: E♭ minor. This is akin to the "routine calculations" mentioned in WP:No original research. If the conclusion is not challenged within one week, then I'll update the page Earth Song accordingly. Odulon (talk) 08:30, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- You can't change something baselessly ("I do not have "a secondary published reliable source""). At most you can remove them if no reliable source exist. (CC) Tbhotch™ 15:57, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Now we can start from scratch. Several song articles state the key; see [1]. On many occasions, the source is just a music score where the key is not explicitly written. In view of this, of the above-mentioned conclusion, and of the above-mentioned "routine calculations" argument, I propose to add the following to the Earth Song page: "It is in the key of E♭ minor, but modulates to F minor[2]". Observe the new citation, which explicitly returns "E♭ Minor" for "Earth Song". Those who would object to this modification should, by coherence, remove everywhere on Wikipedia the statements about keys that are only supported by a music score.
