Please provide a source that the Geats also lived in Skåneland

edit

To the anonymous editor.

It is certainly true that in modern Sweden, Götaland is seen as including Skåneland, but I have never seen Danish sources describing Denmark's former eastern provinces as part of Götaland. The article about the Geats only mentions Väster- and Östergötland and the map doesn't show any Geat settlements south of Småland. Gotland is normally not included in Skåneland. Please provide a reference for the theory that the Geats also lived in Scania. Valentinian (talk) 22:59, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree, we need to make a historical Götaland map. In the Götaland article. So it's shows what Götaland was and what Skåneland was. You are the man to do that Valentinian ;o). --Comanche cph 17:29, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

I've read through various translations of Beowulf and East Dane is never used as a kenning for Geats, but rather refers to Hrothgar. -Saeferth (talk) 22:29, 2 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

This is true -- all 3 instances of "East Dane" in Beowulf refer to the Scyldings/Danes, never to the Geats. This is a major issue with this article. For reference, here are the quotes from the text:
- aldor Éastdena (392a) - a reference to Hrothgar
- ǽrest Éastdena (616a) - another reference to Hrothgar
- hæfde Éastdenum / Géatmecga léod gilp gelæsted (827b-828b) - the leader of the Geat warriors (= Beowulf) fulfilled his boast to the East Danes (= the Danes/Scyldings) Wuduweard (talk) 22:34, 30 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
