Embassy Suites and other riverfront businesses

edit

To be honest it seems like peoriamike has something against the Embassy Suites... he has removed it at least two times over the last two months. This is the first time I have edited this article and it does meet wikipedia's standard for notable features in a city to name large anchoring businesses, especially with sources (like the future bass pro). If you want to edit the article, please do... but follow wikipedia rules and guidelines. Danpenning (talk) 13:39, 25 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure Embassy Suites or Bass Pro Shops are of primary importance to an article about East Peoria in the long run, considering they already-established chains with plenty of locations already, each simply adding another one wherever it is economically convenient. Are they more important in East Peoria's history than, say, the Walmart Supercenter, which was what established for the precedent for riverfront development in the first place, and yet has no mention, let alone details? Contrast those developments with, for example, the Par-A-Dice Hotel and Casino (one of the first legalized gambling locations in Illinois), which has been on both sides of the river, or the Hotel Pere Marquette (National Register of Historic Places) in Peoria. Also compare the inappropriately brief mention of Caterpillar, whose history is tied to that of East Peoria, and without which East Peoria would most likely not even have been big enough to become a city. Caterpillar and the Par-A-Dice perhaps belong in an intro paragraph; but lots of places have Embassy Suites and a Bass Pro Shops, and lots of developments are hyped during their creations. Also, there there don't seem to be any citations about Embassy Suites in the article, and yet it claims it's "Central Illinois's largest hotel that has 226 two-room luxury suites" — that's a pretty narrow category even if proven — and doesn't say how much total capacity it actually has or who would be in second place, or how big of an area "Central Illinois" describes. The Pere could end up being bigger within 3 years, which is not very long in encyclopedia terms. --Closeapple (talk) 19:05, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Origins of Hilton Name

edit

History section: Does anyone know how valid the origin of the Hilton name is? I can't seem to find any information on the Hilton Coal and Iron Mining Company even existing, aside from the Centennial History of East Peoria and surrounding area library blogs.~~~~ Izzynook (talk) 04:47, 18 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
