Was it ever Lambeth?
editIn "Paul Merton's Silent Clowns" Chaplin is described as being a Lambeth lad, but if he was born in East Street, surely that makes him a Southwark lad? From what I read of his entry on here, he has lived in many Lambeth addresses, but surely if East Street has always been Southwark, that makes Chaplin "officially" a Southwark Lad :-) 87.194.44.145 (talk) 10:16, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- As the general area pretty much straddles the border between today's Lambeth and Southwark, both could arguably be true. He was born in part of today's Southwark; but, apart from his time in Hanwell, mostly lived in what is today classed as Lambeth .. but remember that, back in the times when he lived there, the borough maps were very different and Southwark didn't even exist as a borough (he would have been born in the Metropolitan Borough of Walworth and grew up in the Metropolitan Boroughs of Lambeth and Camberwell .. so by your definition he would have been a Walworth lad). navlebeskuelse (talk) 08:43, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Co-ordinates
editI noticed this from Google street maps- the location appears to be set wrong, it comes up as being in the middle of Burgess Park when by the description it's actually a few streets further North. Unfortunately, I know nothing about how to set the co-ordinates so I can't fix it...MorganaFiolett (talk) 10:54, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I just noticed the same thing. The East Street Market is located off of Walworth Road and at postcode SE17 1EL, which is quite some distance from (and a pretty sizeable housing estate) away from the place indicated on the map - that is what happens when coordinates are rounded off to the nearest degree. I will correct the location to 51°29′22″N 0°05′20″W navlebeskuelse (talk) 07:54, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

The East Street that Chaplin was supposedly born in is now call Lollard Street and is off Lambeth Walk.
I would think this pretty much qualifies him as a Lambeth Lad Sir Garth (talk) 10:59, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
