Attendance Numbers
editcould someone add attendance mumbers to the various years, as this would be useful for other groups that are sort of following in eastercons footsteps e.g BiCon (UK)(sorry still haven't got than hang of linking yet)
- I've wikified the table, including a column for attendance numbers, (once we can track them down). VJDocherty 13:57, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I added attendance for BECCON87 - about 800. - Bernard Peek — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.69.127.193 (talk) 11:43, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Eastercon traditions
editThe article on Peter Weston lists his Doc Weir Award with a link to this article, but there was no mention of it here. So I've now added a new section for it - and hopefully other traditions and events specifically connected with Eastercon. The positioning within the article of the new section is probably not ideal, but I couldn't work out where else to put it without a fair bit of restructuring of the rest of the article. Mary Gentle at Seacon '03
editSince she pulled out a couple of days before the convention, claiming to be "under pressure of a deadline", shouldn't she be struck from the Seacon '03 entry? - Johan Anglemark
- If I remember my facts correctly, no, she shouldn't - the committee decided to let her Guest of Honour status stand (and if I've got this wrong, someone who was closer to the centre of events will no doubt come along and correct me). The deadline, by the way, did exist. PWilkinson 18:08, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Birmingham/Solihull
editSomeone changed the location of only one of the Birmingham eastercons to Solihull. I think using the former, more widely known name is more useful.
I agree, it’s weird that 2011 is “NEC, Solihull” and 2017 is “Birmingham” when they were held in the same place (as will 2020, quite likely unless a brand new committee catches the fancy of the 2019 bid session). I would favour “Birmingham”. —Arwel Parry (talk) 22:55, 1 April 2018 (UTC) Arwel Parry (talk) 22:55, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
2016 and 2017
editI see that information about the 2016 and 2017 Eastercons has already been added, although I cannot yet find any independent sources for these and in the case of Mancunicon (2016) their own source is currently a Facebook page. I actually believe that adding this information before it has had reliable publication is promotional, and should not have been done; but I haven't removed it. I have instead cited them as far as I can - only to self-published sources, marked as such. --ColinFine (talk) 09:21, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- OK, I've updated the references to point to File770. --ColinFine (talk) 13:16, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
Trademark
editGiven that "Eastercon" is a trademarked term, shouldn't this article use "Eastercon™"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulfcockburn (talk • contribs) 12:36, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
Work needed
editWith its >70 year history, and thousands of "alumni", and wide range of programming, there is the makings of a Good Article in this topic - but the article needs significant work on:
- scope - it's a very long time since this was an SF-only convention, it needs something on broader speculative fiction, and / or the large coverage of fantasy, horror, etc.
- tone, stripping out casual phrasing
- referencing (yes, it has been covered in mainstream as well as "genre" / fandom media
- more detail on structure / programming
- more on history, key moments, notable guests, etc.
and, for crying out loud, from the millions of photos it has generated, some decent illustration. I hope some other past attendees, and writers in this area, can help. SeoR (talk) 11:10, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
