Episode Guide
editPutting this here, as I can't figure out how to edit the article itself, as the edit page has significatnly changed since I last edited a wikipedia page.
An episode guide for Eastern Cabaret can be compiled from Radio Times as follows:
1. Monday 30th May 1938 9pm-9:40pm [repeated Saturday 4th June 1938 3:25pm-4:10pm] with The Five Lai Founs, Fakson, Reine Paulet, Walsh and Barker. Compere Nelun Devi. Orchestra conducted by Richard Crean. Presentation by Harry Pringle. [NB The Daily Herald and London Daily News did carry any line-up details for this edition, so the Radio Times listing, published ahead of time and subject to changes, is the only available listing.]
2. Monday 12th December 1938 3:10pm-3:55pm [repeated Saturday 17th June 1938 9pm-9:45pm] with Galli-Galli, conjurer; Rahman Bey, Indian Fakir; Ayala, Indian dancer; Stromboli, fire-eater; Five Sherry Brother, dancers; Wilbur Hall and Rene Fields, in comedy; Bob Bromley and his Puppets. Compere, Cyril Fletcher. Presentation by Harry Pringle. [NB The Daily Herald from 12th December 1938, and the London Daily News from 17th December 1938 do not show Hall and Fields in an otherwise identically listed line-up to that in Radio Times, instead showing 'Bob Dyer, comedian' in that place in the list, so this is likely a late change to the line-up that occurred after the publication of Radio Times.]
3. Tuesday 14th February 1938 3pm-3:50pm [repeated Saturday 18th February 1938 9pm-9:50pm] with Effy and Halima (an Arabian novelty), Reine Paulet (Arabic songs), Stone and Lee (in comedy), Bill Pederson and Buddy, Douglas Young, and Cyril Fletcher (compere). Presentation by Harry Pringle. [NB The Daily Herald from 14th December adds 'Anitri Sevitri (Indian dancer)' and 'The Three Hugos (comedy musical act)' to the listing between Douglas Young and Cyril Fletcher, so they were likely late additions to that shows line-up.]
4. Thursday 4th May 1938 3pm-3:45pm [repeated Saturday 6th May 1938 9pm-9:55pm] with Stanley Holloway, Effy and Halima (an Arabian novelty), Arimand Banu (Indian dancer), Galli-Galli (Egyptian conjurer), The Six Yuk Ching Troupe (Chinese acrobats), Brown and Starr (songs at the piano). Compere, Hari Sin Bey. Presentation by Harry Pringle. [NB Both the Daily Herald and the London Daily News from 4th May 1938 showed the exact same listings as Radio Times, so presumably the planned line-up hadn't changed between the publication of Radio Times and the evening/night of 3rd May 1938 (when the papers were finalising their content for the 4th May issue).] MrDannyDoodah (talk) 01:08, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- The NB for the 30th May 1938 edition was supposed to say that Daily Herald and London Daily News did NOT carry line-up details for that edition MrDannyDoodah (talk) 01:11, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
