To not merge; distinct communities, despite the common CDP, warranting separate discussion. Klbrain (talk) 19:27, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I propose merging Noleta into this article. The two articles cover the same geographical region but Eastern Goleta Valley, California is now its official name per the census. --platypeanArchcow (talk) 23:19, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Actually I guess the CDP also includes Hope Ranch, so they are not exactly the same geographic area. I still think that a merger may be justified but it's worth discussing. --platypeanArchcow (talk) 23:30, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I suppose the worst problem is a geographical one -- Hope Ranch is not in the Goleta Valley; it's on the hill overlooking the valley. The secondary problem is that the neighborhoods could not be more different. Hope Ranch is one of the wealthiest enclaves in the United States, and Noleta includes some of the opposite. They're different places. If we do merge them, the article needs to make this clear (and any demographic statistics will be crazy misleading). Antandrus (talk) 00:47, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
CDPs are only boundaries organized by the census bureau. They can change anytime in preparation for the next census. While useful repositories for census data, they should not be used as the basis for merging communities. The distinct communities can be mentioned as they are currently.
