Nice page on Eastern but it does not tell the full story. Eastern was recently chosen by Newsweek as the #300 School in America by virtue of its high rates of AP course taken and passed (over 50% pass rate of over 500 tests taken). This is remarkable because unlike Louisville's other two entries, Dupont Manual HS at 231 and Male HS at 700+, Eastern is NOT a magnet school. While it does have a large technology program, it is fueled by regular students from all over the county.

Fight song

I deleted an earlier section claiming that Eastern's fight song was written by an Eastern alum and later used as the University of Kentucky fight song. The University of Kentucky fight song was written and adopted decades before Eastern High School ever existed. Eastern then used it as its own fight song. Link:

Regardless of whether or not this is true (there isn't any real proof of it), I find it unnecessary. I did, however, graduate from EHS so my thoughts might be somewhat biased - so I want an outside opinion. Magus05 ^(talk) 23:27, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

It does say taken and passed, so even if the scores are lower than the scores at the magnet school, I hardly think it reflects poorly on Eastern. It's not that easy to pass an AP test for credit. I see this as a case of damning with faint praise. Acroterion _(talk) 13:43, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

The school is very technology oriented. (Heck, I got A+ certified in the 10th grade and got to do nothing in my computer classes for the next 2 years...) I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they allow students who are done with work edit this page in computer classes. Magus05 ^(talk) 20:14, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure how schools are where you are from, but in Kentucky (or at least Louisville [EDIT: Okay it's just KY, UofL and UK are the same way Magus05 ^(talk) 20:16, 30 October 2007 (UTC)]), they are very competitive. Not only in terms of sports but in terms of "What school is the best". I'm not sure if that really makes any sense, but the part that says "given that their scores were generally much lower than those scored by students at duPont Manual and Male." seems like something written by somebody from either Male or Manual - in an attempt to bash Eastern. To put it bluntly - before our class (Graduated 2005), the school didn't do so hot in anything. Out class for some reason did astoundingly well on CATs tests and we also took more AP classes than ever before. It propelled the school upward from being "the stupid school" to being in direct competition with schools like Male and Manual (magnet schools with FANTASTIC reputations. I have friends that went to both Male and Manual and they were just shocked. Again, everything I say and think may be biased - but it just seems like that sentence was put together to take away some of Easterns (IMO well deserved) success. </rant> So anyways - it it really necessary for an article on Eastern to say that we didn't score as well as Male or Manual? Unless there is a reliable published source about the analysis of the Newsweek report, the paragraph should be dropped in toto. The biggest problem is that your statement is unsourced. They only inline source I see doesn't link to the material you claim. I would delete the entire paragraph since it is somewhat controversial and not re-add it until it is sourced. See WP:V and WP:RS. JodyB _talk 23:28, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
