Split reverted
editLet me just summarize briefly what happened here:
- Dolovis split this article into three separate articles, namely:
- Dolovis then converted this page into a disambiguation page (but did not fix several hundred other pages that linked to this page).
- Resolute then changed the first of the three separate articles into a redirect back to this page, which was then a disambiguation page. This created circular links and left us with no article at all covering the 1933–1953 period.
- Finding the articles in the state described above, I decided to revert everything, redirect all three of the "split" articles back here, and let the involved editors try to reach consensus about the best way to handle this.
I will also give my two cents' worth, although for the most part these views are not strongly held and I am willing to be persuaded to change my mind:
- The 1933 league and the 1954 league appear to be essentially the same organization and can be covered in a single article.
- The 1978 league appears to be a different entity entirely, and should be covered in a separate article.
- The "in fiction" section is pointless trivia and doesn't belong anywhere in the encyclopedia, unless there is a reliable source establishing that the billboard has achieved a level of notability independent of the film in which it appeared.
- To the extent any text from this article is moved to a different article, proper attribution should be provided in the edit summary (see WP:SPLIT#How to properly split an article, especially point 6).
- If a disambiguation page is needed (and I'm not convinced one is, if there are only two organizations that ever actually used this name), the guidelines on WP:D should be consulted, including WP:FIXDABLINKS.
So, on with the discussion. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 23:56, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- Bah, I didn't realize that Dolovis had done a three-way split. Also, when I reverted back, the EHL page still appeared to be the complete article (looks like he created the dab page about the same time I was redirecting. My window hadn't refreshed to note his changes). I agree with you on pretty much every front. The 1933 and 1954 entries are the same league, and should be the same article. If Dolovis wishes to split the 1978 league (properly, including correct attribution) and fix the dab links, I would not object. Resolute 00:35, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- It was always my intent to fix the dab links after boldly splitting the article, however there was no opportunity to do so because the other editor was so hurried to revert my edits (within just a few minutes and without any forewarning or discussion). I am agreeable that the 1933 and 1954 leagues can be covered within the same article, and as for the 1978 league, I have now re-stored the stand-alone article Eastern Hockey League (1978-1981) per this discussion, with a hat note added to the original article. - Funny, you've agreed that my reversion was appropriate. Also, spare the victim act. You're well acquainted with WP:BRD. Course, I might not have noticed if the copyvio warning didn't pop up. Resolute 03:45, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- Speaking of funny, I recommend reading Wikipedia:The Last Word, as it is always good for a smile. Dolovis (talk) 05:27, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
