editHey all... This will be my first attempt at discussion & article edits since taking the "registration" plunge. Go easy. :-) Wanted your thoughts on breaking out both the ICA information (I can add quite a bit of content) and perhaps also the Newsweek rankings (since we seem to make it on that list every year). Eastside Tech Lab picture
editAs an alumnus of Eastside, I have two responses: 1) The picture that keeps getting removed is clearly the EHS tech lab. Perhaps it looks different now. If somebody can get an updated picture, that would be great. Until then, I suggest that the picture stay. 151.213.161.208 20:48, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- As an alumnus of Eastside, I have two comments:
- 1) The picture is not of Eastside High School. The picture doesn't even appear to have been taken in the state of Florida.
- 2) Eastside's mascot is not "The Mighty Flying Rams," but just "The Rams." UF2007 00:09, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, Catbag's picture (and the comment by 151.213.161.208) is not legit. Eastside High School DOES have a Tech Lab, but it is a much smaller single-story structure. I'll see what I can do about getting a legit pic to replace Image:EHS_Building_42.jpg. Thereisaplace 01:53, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure what the problem is here. As an EHS alumini I can clearly testify that this is a picture of the EHS techlab that Catbag, or whoever has put up. The techlab might have changed in 7 years, but this is unlikely. Thus I am putting the current picture back up, if you have a more recent picture though that would be nice. The Raven 00:55, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Let's just ignore for a moment all of raven's talk page entries related to vandalism. We should also assume that raven and catbag attended some other Eastside High School are just missing the large TITLE at the top of this article specifically citing the location of Gainesville, FL.
- If this is the case, then my sincerest apologies to both raven and catbag for continually undo'ing their posts.
- However, please be absolutely assured that the tech lab shown in catbag's picture is not on, nor anywhere near, Eastside High School's campus (at least the campus located in Gainesville, FL).
- Can we let this be now? Please? Thereisaplace 06:52, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Catbag and The Raven have been temporarily blocked for malicious vandalism and harassment. This is the image in question, by the way: Image:Kasteel Fonteinhof.jpg. Please contact me or another adin if these users return here, or if other users commit similar vandalism. Fram 20:31, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Bonecrusher
editThat was removed? I have a yearbook from when he graduated. If you want I can scan a picture as proof but it most likely violates numerous laws and wiki policies, so I'd rather not. 75.89.19.236 22:42, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
In a similar vein, I am wondering why User:Fram got rid of the link to our 4^2 team. As a current student who is on the team (and even in one of the picutres) I can attest that its our official site, reguardless of how lazy the webmaster is.
- The fake page for the supposed 4*2 team is created by User Syphonbyte/Catbag and his meatpuppets. It contained originally even again the fake picture of the Fonteinhof in Gotem, which was used as vandalism on this page as well, but it was later taken off as it was a too obvious sign of vandalism. Anyway, it is absolutely not a reliable source, and coupled with the history of this page and these edits, it will be removed on sight. Please take your silly vandalism elsewhere. Fram 07:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- The page isn't fake, it's the 4^2 team web site. There are even photographs of the team playing at the school and at tournaments at UF. If you want, I can have the webmaster add more photos to the page, but that doesn't seem like it should be neccessary. I'm not sure why you so vehemently oppose the mention of the 4^2 team in the article, but simply labeling it as "silly vandalism" isn't going to work, and banning every editor who adds that content is against policy. (Admins generally shouldn't ban users with whom they are in an edit conflict unless it's obvious vandalism - in this case, it isn't, since it's a school team with a reference.) The site is, in fact, a reliable source, as it contains primary sources (photographs) establishing that there is in fact a 4^2 team at EHS, which is rather remarkable in much the same way that winning a state basketball championship or being ranked 4th in the nation is remarkable for a High School as well. I do request, though, that you unprotect the article as we can't really work on it right now. I look forward to working with you on improving this article as there was admittedly a lot of crap in it, however to do that we need to try to work together instead of accusing people of meatpuppetry, vandalism or admin abuse. 71.30.255.239 09:14, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- That site proves nothing, as you very well know. Everyone can make a website, put some pics and text on it, and claim whatever they want. You have tried the trick of making a fake website once before and it failed then, I hoped you would be a bit more imaginative this time around. You can complain all you want here, I'm done with you. Fram 09:49, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Do you need us to take a team photo holding up a sign that says "HELLO FRAM!" or something? This site isn't fake, and I don't know what "trick" you are talking about. If that site doesn't at least prove that the EHS 4^2 team exists, then I don't know how any site can prove anything. It is exactly what it says it is, and the pictures make it quite obvious. Denying or ignoring this isn't going to change it; you don't have any reason to say that the team doesn't exist, yet there is proof that it does which you're ignoring for no apparent reason. 75.89.31.75 18:44, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Fram
edit(NOTE: Don't remove this again, Fram, there is no basis for its removal. It's not so-called "trolling". Furthermore, your removal of this argument instead of a reply is evidence of covering-up your misconduct)
You need to leave this article alone. You are from Europe, so it is questionable for you to write about or edit articles regarding the United States. You have no relation to the United States, the state of Florida, the city of Gainesville, and especially not to EHS. Please refrain from editing articles whose topics you are unfamiliar with. Suspecting vandalism or so-called meatpuppetry is no excuse. There are other channels through which you can restore factuality to articles, so you need to stop playing God and go through these proper channels (if need be, consult a moderator or something).
I on the other hand, am a recent and proud graduate of this high school, and will defend from baseless attacks from clueless Europeans (what if I were to write about YOUR high school in Belgium and remove real statistics and facts from it??). I will soon clean up this article of the junk left by people who never even went to this school but who seem to have a fetish for meatpuppets (and I emphasize the 'meat', if you know what I mean) and who insist on following them around from article to article and ruining the Wikipedia experience for serious users. If you continue with your Belgian crusade of ruining the articles of other countries I will do whatever is in my means to have you permenantly banned from this site. Consider this a warning.--128.227.16.179 14:51, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- In addition, Fram has violated one of the basic principle is dispute resolution: DO NOT SIMPLY REVERT CHANGES IN A DISPUTE. This article is well on its way to the Arbitration Committee, since step 1 (talk to other parties involved) has occured, as has step 2 (bringing in an outside editor, me). I am now requesting mediation.--128.227.16.179 20:31, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- I support Fram's Actions here. there's a low level constant flow of vandalism and unsourced claims going on on this article, and rather than police it non-stop, Fram has elected to let the IP vandals cool off and go away. As for the ridiculous nationalistic claim above that European editors don't understand America, well, bigotry's just stupid. ThuranX 22:58, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- The point of the references to 'European' above is not one of nationality, but of context. The point of these references is that Fram has no knowledge whatsoever of the city of Gainesville, FL in the US, and has absolutley no knowledge of the high school in question. Thus how can he determine what is true and what is not? Fram should stick to editing topics with which he is familiar, like Belgian comics. And no, he has not just "elected to let the IP vandals cool off and go away" as you claim, he has locked out the article from VALID edits thus preventing the article from being improved -- he has frozen this article in its half-trash state. This is irresponsible because it DOES NOT promote improvement which is what he SHOULD BE doing. There is also evidence of a personal agenda against some of the involved parties (See the Mediation Cabal for more details). --DaDrought3 00:20, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- For futher evidence of personal agenda clouding Fram already questionable judgement, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:The_Raven in which he continuously accused The Raven of "meatpuppeting". Now whether or not The Raven was or was not engaging in sockpuppeting is not relevant (innocent until proven guilty). My point is that Fram seems to be infatuated with The Raven and this introduces bias into every action Fram takes against The Raven's supposed wrongdoings, including this article. I say, KEEP the FRAM vs THE RAVEN FIGHT FROM RUINING ARTICLES. --DaDrought3 00:30, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well, youv'e been on Wikipedia for ONE day. Fram's been here MUCH longer. That's one thing, he's got experience, you lack it. Two: I'd suspect instead that after Fram found Raven to be plagarizing on the Gotem article, he investigated other efforts by Raven, and found this page, where he found the problematic vandalism. I suggest you take this as a learning opportunity. These vandals are in the wrong, and it's their school. As such, they are unlikely to leave the article be. If their accounts are blocked, they will get new ones. The simplest solution is to just lock the article. ThuranX 18:27, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I've been on wikipedia for at least a year, my account is what's new. Also, experience doesn't mean maturity. And oh yea, it's my school too, so while 'simply locking the article' might mean nothing to you, to me it's unfair to leave the article in a half-vandalized state. Locking an article is an irresponsible, short term, lazy fix for this problem. --DaDrought3 16:56, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Awards and competitions
editI changed the title of the section from Trivia. These are major accomplishments for the students and the institution and are not trivial. Can someone add information about the robotics competition? Is it only high school? Adding the actual name of the competition would be good. --Robbie Giles 15:40, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

NPOV tag - September 2007
editBumm13 posted an npov tag on the EHS main article page as of 11 September 2007. Unfortunately Bumm13 failed to address his specific concerns on this TALK page per npov dispute guideless. I have posted a comment concerning this on Bumm13's TALK page. If no objections in the next week or so, I will remove the NPOV tag. Thanks! --Thereisaplace 17:18, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- My reasoning for adding this tag is due to much of its content having more of a promotional tone than actual information that is important for inclusion in an encyclopedia. This is one of my concerns over having articles on (most) high schools on Wikipedia in the first place. Many of the school's accolades aren't relevant outside the state of Florida (let alone the United States) and equivalent information could easily be added to articles of many high schools both in and outside of Florida. Much of this information could just as easily be labeled as trivia rather than regular objective information.
- For example, the entry "Eastside consistently has top-ranked athletics." Well, in what manner does that distinguish Eastside High School of Gainesville, Florida from the thousands of other high schools around the United States? Many high schools' boy's and girl's basketball teams place in their states' respective tournaments. And a soccer team winning a district championship is completely non-notable for an encyclopedia entry. The bottom line is, information that doesn't truly distinguish the article's subject from other similiar high schools around the U.S. should be considered trivia at best and ought not to be included in its Wikipedia article. Bumm13 02:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick reply and explanation! I have added a cleanup-school tag to the top of the page, which seems to me more in line with your concerns stated above. While I don't entirely agree that only national level distinctions should be noted, I will abide by the guidelines setup in WP:SCH as I endeavor to cleanup this entry.
- I am curious, why did you chose EHS to hit with an NPOV? No other area school was so chosen. --Thereisaplace 04:07, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Offered Classes (AP/IB); Cleaning Up Topics/Promotional Material
editHello all, I am senior from Eastside High School in the IB program (as of 2013-2014). I am going to add a section that lists the IB and AP courses offered by Eastside High School. However, this section will be needed to be periodically edited as classes at EHS are constantly being cut and added. Should the section fall out of date, either update or delete it in it's entirety. I have also attempted to edit out any promotional material and hope that any future editors will continue to do so. Notes: (Awards and Competitions) Should enough competitions of one type appear, string them together in order to condense the information. If you cannot cite a competition/award or fact about the school with a valid source DO NOT POST IT "Encyclopedic content must be verifiable." (Wikipedia). NGC7662 (talk) 22:33, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
