Interestingly enough, you can't get to Ebbw Vale (the real one) on the train at all. There is no railway station there. Telsa 12:29, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Well, until the Ebbw Valey railway is re-opened to passengers sometime in the next two years you can't. Owain 19:47, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Looks like a note on the existing page pointing to the Queensland railway station is the consensus. I wasn't aware of this option, hence my page move request. I'll add the note and withdraw the request. Thanks, everybody, for your input! --EZ-SpelChek 21:37, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Done! I have left the request on the PMR page, along with a note saying it is no longer requested, just in case anybody there is following. I'll pull it all off in a day or so.

It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it be moved.

The article has a stub template. Is this necessary, or is there more to come? --EZ-SpelChek 21:51, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

The trivia says steel from Ebbw vale built the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but the article on the bridge says that 79% of steel came from Middlesborough and the rest was from Australia. Who's right? -163.1.223.30 13:12, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sydney Harbour Bridge reference

edit

According to the page for the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the imported steel came from Middlesborough, not Ebbw Vale. Is there a reference that supports either claim? AndyCunningham 10:53, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Since nobody has substantiated this claim I shall remove it.--163.1.223.30 16:40, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Black Mountains

edit

"Ebbw Vale contains many secret underground tunnels that run through the Black Mountains (the Black Mountains are nowhere near Ebbw Vale). They were used during World War 2 to export iron, coal and other materials outside the area."

This quote makes no sense at all either Ebbw Vale is near the Black mountains or it does not, in which case more explanation is needed in to how ebbw vale can contain tunnels under mountains which ae so far apart from the town Franz-kafka 15:47, 28 April 2007 UTC)—

There are old tunnels that join Ebbw Vale to other towns like Tredegar and Nantyglo - these go back to the time of the iron industry - and, of course, the vast network of coal mines in South Wales meant that it used to be possible to travel vast distances underground. However, the Black mountains lie far to the northwest of Ebbw Vale. Coal and steel would have travelled south for export, to Newport, via a railway running at the bottom of the narrow valley. I think this claim about the tunnels linking Ebbw Vale to the Black Mountains needs referencing or removal.81.153.122.232 15:38, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wales or England?

edit

A friend of mine recently told me that her Grandfather was born in Ebbw Vale, but that he always maintained he was not a Welshman because at the time (1919, I think) the border was in a different place, and Ebbw Vale was in England! Personally I find this hard to believe. Any comments, please? Hogyn Lleol 08:06, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notable people

edit

Does anyone know anything about the benchmaker Jonathan Harrison? Is he really from the area? Is he really notable? Meters (talk) 16:57, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

No. No idea who he is or where he is from. Let's hope people appreciate his benches. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:24, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Mark Williams talk page

edit

Mark Williams the snooker player is from Cwm but in his infobox it states that Cwm is in Ebbw Vale which I think is incorrect. Please can you comment on this on his talk page. Thanks. Rodney Baggins (talk) 12:03, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Have commented, thanks. I don't think Williams or Victor Spinetti should be included in the list of "Notable people" here. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:26, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Martin. I've just updated Mark's page. I won't interfere with the Ebbw Vale article, if you want to remove Mark from the notable people list yourself? Rodney Baggins (talk) 18:24, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ok. For now I've just made them consistent. Cwm is three miles away, but many people will see it as "Ebbw Vale" Happy to wait for a third opinion. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:37, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Welsh name

User:Jammyjames60, I realise it's Glynebwy at cy.wiki, but why do all the road signs have Glyn Ebwy e.g. like this one? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:25, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
