Top Reformer

edit

According to the Ease of Doing Business Report 2009 recently published the country is named the year's top reformer. I find that this is worth to write into the Economy section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.186.93.117 (talk) 15:49, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proven Oil Reserves

edit

Does anybody actually know the proven oil reserves of Azerbaijan? I have come across figures from 589 million bbl (CIA Factbook) to some who claim 30-40 billion bbl! Does anybody actually know? Kiumars 07:50, 8 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Macro-economic trend

edit

I am a bit puzzled by the Macro-economic trend table. Can we have figures in USD please? My understanding of the table is that GDP increased almost 6 folds between 1995-2005 (10,660,000 – 59,378,500 whatever the unit is! I take it that it is USD as that currency is usually used for reporting GDP) but the value of the GDP in USD Exchange did not actually rise! Which means Manats Exchange rate increased almost 6 folds during that period.

By the way the CIA factbook estimated the 2005 GDP at $38b (or $10.4b at Official Exchange rate), what is the correlation between CIA figures and this table's figures?

Kiumars 19:51, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Divide the GDP (in national currency) by the exchange rate to get $ values. I hope yoiu are aware that $ values are arbitrary figures compiled for international comparison only. National accounts and databases are maintained in ruling currencies only. The PPP figures are usually higher than nominal GDP figures. This involves a controversial calculation of the intrinsic worth of the $. It is again arbitrary and used to compare the quality of life and pricing of services internationally. To get PPP figures, divide the GDP (in national currency) by PPP conversion rate. Anwar 22:10, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Anwar, If you divide the GDP in Manats to the dollar exchange rate (59,378 billion / 4,727 = $12.6 billion). So where did CIA’s $10.4 billion come from? I still cannot understand the 20% difference between these figures ($12.6 & 10.4)! Are there two different exchange rates for dollar/Manats? Is this 20% difference because of Dollar/Manat flotation? Isn’t Manat pegged to USD? Can you do the calculation for me here please?

pipeline revenues

edit

Re: The pipeline is expected to generate as much as $160 billion in revenues for the country over the next 30 years.

That is over 5 billions per annum! I understand that the max capacity of the pipe is 1 million bbl/day, and a simple calculation shows that they must charge almost $14 per bbl to make that kind of revenue from the pipe if it works full capacity (5,000,000,000 / (365 x 1,000,000)) = $13.7/bbl. Where is the source of the $160 billion estimate? Kiumars 13:18, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Trouble archiving links on the article

edit

Hello. I am finding myself repeatedly archiving links on this page. This usually happens when the archive doesn't recognize the archive to be good.

This could be because the link is either a redirect, or I am unknowingly archiving a dead link. Please check the following links to see if it's redirecting, or in anyway bad, and fix them, if possible.

In any event this will be the only notification in regards to these links, and I will discontinue my attempts to archive these pages.

Failed verification & WP:OR alert

edit

Quote: The country's oil wealth has enabled the state to host lavish international events, as well as engage in extensive lobbying efforts abroad

The following links are added to support the claim:

1. https://www.occrp.org/en/azerbaijanilaundromat/

2. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/sep/04/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-azerbaijani-laundromat

The problem is that neither of the links above contains any mention of oil, gas or petroleum, let alone their engagement in 'extensive lobbying efforts abroad'.

Simply put, failed verification combined with the WP:OR violation. Hew Folly (talk) 09:00, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
