Suggestions

edit

Hey Theresa, a few suggestions for you.

  • Throughout the article, the person should be referred to by their surname - see WP:SURNAME
  • Links within the article should be to other wikipedia articles (done using double square brackets - see WP:WIKILINK) not to websites
  • Any wiki-type websites or personal blogs etc are not acceptable as references (see WP:UGC), what you are looking for is coverage in reliable, independent, secondary sources (WP:RS) so newspapers articles, journals, books etc that are not connected to the person
  • I hope you don't mind, I've added the formatting for a references template at the bottom

Hi there Melcous. I'm wondering how I go about getting my draft reviewed? I've done all that I can for now in terms of content. I'd like to get a sense of how close I've gotten to being ready to move it to publish? Thank you, Theresa at Indevelopmeant (talk) 15:04, 12 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Follow-up on suggestions

Melcous, Thanks for these!

  • I figured about the surname. I was just getting tired repeating them, but I understand.
  • I was wondering about the links. Can I ask about specific example, where I mention the organization El Puente. The link to it would be on the "External Links" list at the bottom of my Edgardo wiki article. But, within the Edgardo wiki article (where it appears in the 4th para), it would not be linked at all? How, within this Edgardo wiki, would I indicate that it is a person/org for which there's an external link at the bottom of the page? How does the reader know that I've included follow up information about a fact that may warrant additional follow-up?
  • I absolutely get about the personal blog thing. It was a placeholder for me, to find legitimate sources where she'd been referenced.
  • Thank you for formatting the references template. I was wondering how to do that. Can you please direct me to where I can read up on how to do section breaks like, Early Life, Personal Life, etc. As a follow-up to this, how do I get the framed area with a table of contents that links to those sections within the page?

Hi Theresa. When you edit the article, you will see that the heading References is formatted by including two equal signs on each side. This is how you do a section heading (e.g. Early life, Career, Personal life etc). Sub-section headings are done by putting three equal signs on each side. Once you put some of these into the article, this will automatically create the table of contents with links to the sections at the top. You can read more at WP:SECT
With links, you can read WP:EL and in particular WP:ELNO on what should and shouldn't be included in an external links section. But generally that is not included within the article itself. That is what references are for - so if a reader wants to follow up on a fact in the article, that should be a footnote to the source, rather than an external link. You've done that with the one reference already, but for more info on that see WP:REF. Any website that is already included as a reference is not then also included under the External Links heading.
For lots more information on what should (and shouldn't) be included in "BLP"s (Biographies of Living People) which obviously this article would come under, you can have a look through WP:BLP
By the way, when you're replying to a talk message, rather than always starting with a new topic/section, the common way is to use colons (:) to indent the beginning of each paragraph, adding one more each time a reply is added.
For example, if this was a reply rather than the same message, I would do it like this ...
And then if someone replied to that it would look like this. Hope that helps,

(I hope I'm replying correctly). I was traveling for a few days, but am hoping to finish this entry today and tomorrow (Wed 3/1). I've been reading the WP:ELNO, so hopefully I can keep all that straight.
